FOR ABOUR A YEAR NOW, I HAVE HAD SEVERE PAIN IN MY HIP, LEFT BUTTOCK, FRONT AND REAR OF MY LEFT THIGH.  I WENT TO SEE A DOCTOR, WHO SAID IT WAS SCIATICA, THEY REFERRED ME TO A PHYSIOTHERAPIST, AFTER A FEW SESSIONS, SHE SAID, SHE COULDNT DO ANYTHING ELSE TO HELP ME. AND SUGGESTED I HAVE A HIP X RAY, THEN FOLLOW IT UP FROM THERE. AFTER THE X RAY I RETURNED TO THE DOCTORS, FOR MY RESULTS,.  AND WAS TOLD IT WAS SEVERD ARTHRITIS THAT I HAVE. AND HE GAVE ME TRAMADOL, I AM RELUCTANT TO TAKE THESE, AS I HEAR THEY MAY YOU VERY SLEEPY. I WS HOPING THE DOCTOR WOULD SUGGEST AN INJECTION TO EASE MY PAIN. IS THIS HOW IS HAS TO BE ALL THE TIME?  ME IN CONSTANT PAIN AND BEING HARDLY TO WALK? I HAVE STARTED TAKING, GLUCOSAMINE AND CHONDROITIN, I HAVE TAKEN THIS FOR FOUR WEEKS NOW, AND HAVE FELT NO BETTER, PERHAPS IN THE LONG TERM THEY MAY HELP, I ALSO TAKE 600MG IBUPROFEN FOR THE PAIN, WHICH HARDLY HELPS. IS THERE ANYONE WHO HAS THE SAME PROBLEM?  IF SO I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ANY COMMENTS AND TIPS, AS TO HOW I CAN WALK PAIN FREE AGAIN... PEP

Hello pep, I fear you may have logged onto the wrong forum. This forum is specifically for sufferers of PMR and GCA. try and get your query transfered to the arthritis site. Good luck, christina

it was 18 months,  for my doc to get to the correct diagnosis, gave me pain killers .  phisio.  injections  , i had to sugest could it be pmr, as my   neice  who is a gp  says thats what it sounds like ,so on this suggestion he put me on pred.20mg.  within  4 days i was practicly pain free.     but i do read on this forum  some  docs  get a bit  tutchy  when we try to suggest  something differant to what they  think, but give it a try.  cannot loose  anything

but it was worthit in my case  so give it a try good luck

SAME PROBLEM LIKE YOU, PEP ......LEFT HIP PAIN, BUTTOCK SCIATICA PAIN RUNNING DOWN MY LEFT LEG.  I COULD NOT SLEEP ALL NIGHT BECAUSE OF PAIN.  ALEVE DID NOT HELP NEITHER THE PREDNISONE I AM TAKING.  I DON;T THINK IT IS PMR...MAYBE SOMEHOW CONNECTED.  MY RIGHT PELVIC JOINT IS PAINFUL GOING UP STEPS ESPECIALLY. O WILL CALLL MY GP FOR AN INJECTION INTO THE RIGHT HIP.  I THINK I MIGHT PUT TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON MY LEFT LEG TO SUPPORT THE RIGHT LEG, AND THIS MIGHT CAUSE THE TROUBLE.

SO SORRY THAT YOUR PROLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SO LONG.

    ARTHRITIS RELATED PAIN IS AWFUL!

I AM SORRY I CANNOT GIVE ANY ADVISE.....I AM IN DIRE NEED OF HELP MYSELF.  THERE ARE MANY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND TRAINED FELLOW SUFFERERS WHO MIGHT BE ABLE TO GIVE US SOME ADVICE.  LUCKILY I HAVE A PHYSICAL THERAPY APPOINTMENT IN THE MORNING FOR THE SI JOINT AND LEFT SHOULDER.  MAYBE THEY WILL BE HELPFUL FOR THE LEFT BUTTOCK PROBLEM AS WELL.

Thought to share with you....I went to my GP for a cortisone shot in my right hip.  He said that  ALL my pain is because of PMR --- no shot --- I need to up Prednisone.  I did, and within hours my sciatica pain in my left leg and buttock went away, and my hip pain lessened.

He said to reduce VERY slowly when I reach 17  1/2.  I will use the very slow method Eileen recommends.  I hope it will finally work and do not have to fear a monthly excruciating flare.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but was is PMR?  I suffer with OA in my hips (or so the doctor told me) and I take Naproxen as a painkiller and anti-inflammartory, but really want to try to wean myself of this and try something less harsh.  Has anyone tried Tumeric tablets, or anyother alternative supplements?
