Well. as the "resident" pain doc, retired, I guess I ought to reply. However, I never treated anyone with spina bifida occult, though my younger sister has it and was never bothered by it. So, I'm not sure if your diagnosis is the cause of your problems, just having a defect may not be the reason for the symptoms. It's sort of like saying, aha! I see you have a freckle on that spot and therefore the freckle is causing all your problems. You are having an awful lot of problems, for what is for most people, a benign condition which is why most docs are "looking at you stupid".  But, they shouldn't discount your symptoms because spina bifida occulta doesn't present this way.  You say you had 7 operations, could these have something to do with all the pain? Do you have failed back syndrome?  Do you have any pain elsewhere?  Have you had any accidents or injuries to your back? Have you had any children, were these difficult childbirths?  Is there a family history of any arthritis or autoimmune disease?  In addition to the pain are you getting radiation of the pain down your buttocks and into your legs and feet? Do you have weakness in your legs and feet?  Do you have bladder or bowel problems? You see, you need a proper work up for the back pain before you lay the problem on the spina bifida occulta.
