Eleven years ago I had breast cancer for he second time. I had a mastectomy and a reconstruction using the muscle in my back. The surgery was incredible and I was very grateful. However, when my back was cut, I suffered nerve damage and have had neuropathic pain ever since. It feels as if I have metal prongs in my back pulling it down all the time.I had Gabapentin and that helped a bit but I fell asleep driving my car! After that I had massage, tens machine, acupuncture but nothing helped.I have been having Quetenza patches which helped a bit but sadly that no longer seems to work. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I had no idea how a reconstruction is done and I'm sorry to hear that you've have been in so much pain.
I had an X-ray about 2 years ago and I was told my chronic neuropathic
pain is caused by a prolapsed disc which is pressing on my nerve roots.
Like yourself I am on Gabapentin, also tramadol, morphine patches and a cream for my leg and buttock. I did have a tens machine from the hospital but as it wasn't making any difference I returned it. I don't know why I still take everything I've been given as my pain is still chronic. I have been pushing for an MRI as I told the GP my pain is so severe I can barely walk and am in a wheelchair now. So obviously, in my opinion something has changed in my back and that is why I've pushed for another scan. Well, finally, my GP referred me to the Spinal assessment clinic and straight away they have booked me in to have an MRI this Monday!
It seems to me you definitely need more investigation into your problem. Nobody should be suffering as you are. A MRI or CT scan would hopefully show where the problem commences and who knows maybe some nerves can be moved away from the area.
Please persevere and keep telling your GP how you are effected by this problem. Maybe you will be even transferred to the Spinal clinic as I was?
Good luck and my thoughts and best wishes to you.
