I have terrible indigestion.

I was diagnosed with sarcoi of the lung In 2003. Was on prednisolone, high dose for a year. Got better and been off meds since. Last month I was told it has resurfaced and my lungs have scars now. Am back on prednisolone, started on 20mg a day for 2 weeks down to 15 now running for 6wks then 10th thereafter. The indigestion is making me very uncomfortable especially when in public. Also the doc wants me to do blood tests to start me on azathioprine not sure about this as it has terrible side effects. I just feel scared sometimes and think my lungs will soon go worse.

Jessica - do you have polymyalgia rheumatica as well? Everyone herehas either that or giant cell arteritis and that is why we are on pred. We are likely to be on it at a lowish dose for years.

In terms of your pred dose and indigestion - did your doctor not also put you onto omeprazole or another PPI as "stomach protection"? You can try taking Zantac  (ranitidine) yourself - it is available OTC and does the same job as a PPI with fewer side-effects.

Are you on any other medication because you are on pred? If you are on omeprazole THAT can cause indigestion itself so do discuss this with your doctor.

Very few of us are offered azothioprine so you won't get a lot of info here - try asking on a rheumatoid arthritis forum or there may even be an azothioprine forum - there is a search box on the right hand side of this page, type it in and look. There is also bound to be a sarcoidosis forum.

Do hope you find some help.

Thank you Eileen. I do not have the conditions you mentioned. I will purchase some zante and hopefully things will be better.
