The ringing in my ears (only) been having it for about 3 years,It doesn't bother me it is very mild and sometimes I forgot I have it. Now this fast 2 months, I have been having this thumping, like drum beating in my ear, sometimes I thought there's someone on my roof top ceiling in my house. it is so lowd, this  always happen at night. It really bother's me. I went to  an EENT doctor, there was not much wax he could find. I was examined on my hearing and the result was good. Then the doctor had me ctscan, again no tumor. so what is this. He said this is life time, no cure, I can just ignore it or buy a Rain Whisper(some kind of a machine w/ soft music) so I can get asleep. Now what I do is  take sleeping pills almost everyday, or once a while take a Herbal sleepytime tea or have a red wine before going to bed. this last two helps , but take a while for me to sleep.  Sleeping pills is the best but somehow I am worried it's dangerous to take it every day.. Now I have a Doctor Friend, and I discuss it to her, I was not satisfied w/ the EENT adviced. She suggested to have a 2nd opinion w/ a Specialist EENT, which I have an appt. now after the New Year. This is called MINIERES desease. I read in the Forum, that has the same problem, Magnesium can help, I am diabetic ,hope it will be no danger. I think I will try.

I would suggest a second opinion to an EENT specialist , which I will do.

You may want to read up on middle ear myoclonus.  This is likely the cause of your thumping.  I have this and it happens once in a while.  The thumping is caused by a muscle spasm of one it th muscles in the middle ear.

Thanks for your reply dizzyear,  At least your thumping is once in a while only, mine is  night and day everyday!. In daytime i can put up on it, the thumping and ringing at the same time, is mild but it's there. Night time, is horrible!  I can hear it so loud. Anyway, I will research information on middle ear myoclonus as you have suggested. Have a nice day.

Is there’s any chance that you are hearing your heartbeat.  Is the sound in sync with your heart?  There are a few conditions that can cause this.  There are some good phone apps that can play background sound to make it easier to sleep.

    Hello Rica,

So sorry to read of your problem too.  I had the same thing happen to me the other day and thought

it maybe a nerve in my ear causing it....sure enough after a while it did go away, strangest feeling too.

The problem with taking sleeping tablets, some are addictive, you don't want that.  Miniers disease,

you'd usually feel really dizzy, so unlikely to be that.  Are you stressed at all, as stress can certainly

bring on Tinnitus and of course many other problems too.  Eustachian tube Dysfunction, blocked ear

can also cause that thumping noise you can hear.

Do hope you manage to get it sorted.

Thank you Anne05078 for your reply, my main problem is the drum beating together w/ the ringing. It is worse  at night when I am ready to go to bed. I know sleeping pills is addictive so once in a while I have Red wine, which takes an hour for me to sleep, not like the sleeping pills , it knocks me down in a few minutes. It's so strange I feel normal, no allergy or dizzy spells.  You are so lucky you did not experience this Drumming for a long time. I am in my two months of this terrible like acoustic Trauma. You have a good Holidays.
