I have had 5 inguinal hernias over the last 2 years.  3 weeks ago doctors strengthened by inguinal ligament with 3 layers of mesh while they were repairing the latest 2 hernias.  Time will tell whether this will prevent a reoccurence

That's really all that I know that they did.  Surgeons put mesh over hernias to repair them.  I my case they also somehow attached 3 layers of mesh to my ligament which was weak, presumably from previous surgeries.  I've googled this procedure but really don't understand the technical terms used in the stuff google brought up.  But it does seem to be effective.  I'm not sure if there is a similar technique that can be used for your ventral hernia problem

Oh my goodness. I have so wondered if there's a possibility of it needing to be done again for me. I'm only a week out of the hospital and have been plagued with an allergy attack (season stuff), but it's been making me sneeze like crazy and straining my abdomin. I've wondered how I can strengthen the muscle if I can't do anything over the next year. Yikes!

    Hi, alva.ashley92,

I am now convinced that there is no way I am ever going to have the op. for my Hernia, all I keep reading from everyone is how long the recovery is and so many people seam to need it done more than once. I have developed my own way of coping with the pain; I lay down on my left side after eating for about 20 min; thi helps to take away the pain,(dont know why); cant be done if at work!!!!; I just know that I am not going to put-up with all the after-effects of an op; only to maybe go through it again and again. All tyhe tablets in the world only help midley and are not a cure. I am even thinking of finding a faith healer!!!!. cant be any worse than the medical profesion; Hope you feel better soon.

linda84156, I can't believe that all the results are negative. I've heard from several friends who have had theirs taken care of with little problem at all. I'm now 10 days out from my surgery. 6 small stitches were removed (from three different incisions) and seriously, daily I am improving in huge amounts. I have religiously worn my abdomen binder, which I'm convinced really helps. I had to buy a second one today because the initial one fit fine with all the leftover gas in my belly, but now it's getting a little on the big side. Please don't be discouraged. The alternative can be miserable. And while I didn't engage with a faith healer, I have had a ton of people praying for me (and me for myself) - not a bad thing to do.
