I haven't slept in 5 days and nothing seems to work, what should I do?

Long story short, I'm having trouble sleeping.

My insomnia began right around New Year's and it spiraled downward from there. For the first 3 days, I slept for about a total of 6 hours until I started taking melatonin. The melatonin worked for a single night, and I got a full night's rest. However, the next day, I slept for 3 hours, and after that night, the insomnia got worse. As of the date I'm writing this it has been a total of 5 days without any sort of sleep. I was so desperate at one point that I took more melatonin than I needed to, but it just made me feel groggy not sleepy.

Other than medication, I've tried using the yoga or different warm drinks and nothing seems to work. I'm incredibly tired, but I would just close my eyes and feel wide awake. I feel like something is seriously wrong with me, but the doctor's is busy until February so I'll have to deal with this until then.

I'm exhausted and I don't know how much longer I can deal with this. Can anyone help or give me suggestions on what else I can do?

Has this ever happened to you in the past? Do you know what triggered it?

I've had insomnia in the past, yes, but not to this extent. It just all kind of started one night and it got worse.

Oh boy to get sleep after so long is tough sounds as though your circadium sleep rythum is disrupted. In many cases sleep problems is as individual as picking a favorite color. In my case winter is worst due to long dark days where I live. And because it's dark and cloudy the body make its own melatonin don't need to rake any extra, sleep difficulty can be seasonal.

Great to listen to music of stories, stories work best for me to keep myself from taking away about everthing which keeps me awake. By listening to stories softly spoken or the many helpful videos on concentration to relax on YouTube using earphones in one ear and ear plug in the other.

I use a few nightly stories to unwind and stick with the same routine every nite. Going to bed and waking at the same time has helped reset my circadium rythum for sleep. o I sleep with a snorer and on oxygen. So earplugs is a must.

See circadium rhythm for resetting sleep rythum .

This is a short term solution but, if you are over 18, try drinking a glass of wine... or two, if you are that desperate to sleep. When I really need to sleep but can’t by myself, that’s what I do.

Alcohol, before bed has been proven to cause more sleep problems. Plz Google for more info. Alcohol is not the solution. Ask for a sleep study from your doc. They can help pin point why sleep has been a problem for you. I hope by now you have had some good quality of sleep!

In many studies on sleep vs alcohol...A glass or two of alcohol before bedtime can make you sleepy and also make u miss the first stages of sleep, REM (rapid eye movement). This stage is much easier to wake up from which explains why people wake up after a couple hours of sleep after alcohol consumption . This is also why alcohol can cause insomnia and create a drinking problem if the individual is predisposed to dependence on alcohol.

Also  would include stress & anxiety can be a major factor for insomnia. In many cases seritonon uptake meds can be helpful prescribed by a doctor. These are anti suppressants and can help relax the mind in some cases thru a balance of hormones in the brain for better sleep.

    Sleeping better I hope.

Yes, I have sleep problems when my life is dull and I am depressed. The sleep problem because of depression is much worse than when I am anxious. Try working on increasing activities that make you happy. If you did not mess up with sleeping pills in the past your sleep will come back eventually.

If you haven't had any sleep for 5 days then that is serious and you need a sedative. Maybe you need to go to your nearest hospital and they should make you stay there for a couple of nights and give you something to sleep.

I'm pretty sure she/he was swear of how serious his sleep interruptions were.

Got any studies or sources about sedatives being the immediate go-to for 5 days missed sleep? Got any sources on hospitals making you stay for insomnia recovery? Because I overdosed on heroin and they didn't even have me stay the night.

Maybe just stick with: hey, that's a pretty long time without sleep, maybe call a doctor and make an appointment?

And OP: Because this could be happening for literally thousands of reasons, the internet is just going to frustrate and add stress to your already sleep deprived life, I would make an appointment with your primary care physician before rushing off to a specialist or the ER.

What country are you in ?

UK hospitals are not helpfull in that respect. A&E (Emergency) is for injuries and serious conditions. If at night you are liable to be waiting for more than four hours.

You overdosed on Fent not Heroin. There is virtually no Heroin anymore. You need no precursor to synthesize Fent just pour some chems together and bam. Way easier, cheaper, and incognito than growing huge Poppy Sov fields, scoring the pods, harvesting the dried latex. Then you'd have to synth all that into Diamorphine. What cartel is gonna want to do that much work? Not underplaying an overdose. But once Naloxone is administered, and your vitals have been cleared unless you ODed on something with an insane half life like Methadone, that's pretty much the entire prognosis of an overdose, of course they won't let you stay. As someone that would put anything into my veins to get a rush that got out of the game when Fent flooded the Country around 2018, if you haven't gotten clean yet, please please please do it now. There are going to be new Fent analogs for ever and ever, and they are going to get more and more potent. You will end up dead. I promise.
