I hurt my knee months ago and I can't kneel on it anymore?

I am 24 years old. About 6 months ago, I tripped on my front porch and fell on my knee. I was able to catch myself somewhat, my L knee was fine, but my R knee hit the concrete pretty hard. At first I thought I broke it because it didn't really scratch on the concrete, it just slammed hard into the concrete. I remember I was on the verge of tears, it was hard to stand up again and I limped for a few days after that. My knee turned a little purple over the next few days, and it became easier to walk on. The bruising faded in about a week and a half. I just figured I bruised it pretty bad.

However, here I am 6 months or so later, and I cannot kneel on this knee. It is excruciatingly painful and feels like it did when I originally hit it. It doesn't seem to be feeling any better. Now I am worried that my knee is permanently damaged or something. I have not seen the doctor for it because I don't consider it an "emergency" and it is already so hard to get into the doc due to COVID policies and such.

Does anyone have any idea of maybe what happened and if it goes further than just a contusion and bruise? My knee does not appear deformed and does not look different than my other knee which was not hurt. TIA

knee injuries can be tricky to treat. a xray would be a good idea to know what injury it is and better how to treat it. we are given only two knees to take care of for a lifetime. wearing a knee sleve and heat treatments is helpful until you see a doctor.
