I just can't win

I don't think this will ever end.  I'mnot having another dizzy feeling and I don't know if its the ned antibiotic I'm on, its called macrobid and its for bladder infections, it says it causes dizziness when standing but this its when i'm isitting, standing and laying down,  I've been on this med for 3 daysand the dizzy thing started a little yesterday afternoon and worsening last night when I went to bed.  I feel like I'm moving quickly back and forth like on a fair ride, I'm also having nausea and a headache.  I also upped my propranolol last night to 15 mgs and don't know if it thats.  I want to tell myself your overthinking it all and your anxiety is doing it. i'm so tired of it all.

I've been stressed  a lot for the past few days, worried about all the doctors appts I've had and now with this bladder pain i had and then telling me i had protein and small amount of keytones in the urine and when I looked it up, it said kidney disease, but the doc said dehydration.  But put me o the antibotic incase of infection.  Then I woke up at 5 this morning with some stupid thought of my muscles not working right, now my muscles are hurting.

I really hoped this propranolol was going to stop all these anxious thoughts, but i keep telling myself the dose is not enough yet.  I know the stress over the past few days is not helping but I'm a worrier.

I just needed to get this out, thanks for listening.

    Good Morning Patty,

When I went to E.R. last week they told me I had a UTI and put me in keflex500 mg 4 times a day. I got so sick and it seemed to trigger all of the spinning, dizziness, nausea and my body hurt. I stopped it last Sunday and I still have weakness in my legs and I feel wobbly.

It could be the antibiotic is to strong. I would call your doctor maybe they can give you something else.

    Feel Better. ☺

      HI Angie

I'm thinking about letting the doc know, becasue this is just rediculous.  I hope you feel better and your legs get more stable.

      You feel better as well

I just took Macrobid last week for a UTI and it made me feel like death. I was so dizzy and weak I could barely walk. I had to stop early (4 days in). I took it once before and it just made me nauseated but this time it really really messed me up. As soon as I stopped taking it, I felt 100% better.

      HI Hayhue

Thanks for the info.  I wasn't sure if its the antibiotic but its the only new i"ve added.  I've taken 5 pills, so I will probably let the doc know I can't take it.  I feel like crap.

I know it's hard to do but easy to say but you need to try to relax a bit and calm down. Your gonna make it worse. I get the same way. One day is not bad. The next no matter what I do, I feel dizzy bad or have vertigo. Then the outside factors, other people making me stress out. Boss called said my job had been taken over by someone else. Like I need more stress.

      Hi

I'm sorry your job has been taken.  That wil def cause stress.

I know this disorder causes so many problems, and sometimes its tough to relax.  I think its the anti-biotic that is making this worse and will be taking it anymore.

I hope you get your job figured out.

That's another reason to go to a therapist atleast once or twice. Mine told me some antibiotics will mess with your inner ear and cause vertigo. I gave her a list of ones I was on prior to this all happening.

Has your Neurotologist mentioned using Effexor ER instead of the Propranolol?  Effexor is a better drug for MAV and also helps with the anxiety.  Just a thought.  This is the protocol that the Chicago Dizziness Clinic recommends.

    Ugh! Macrobid is horrible!

I took it a few years back and literally felt weird and like I was dying and told my husband to call an ambulance.

It took several days to get over the weak muscles that it caused.

Google it and you will read tons of reactions.. i don't know why it hasn't been pulled from the market

I've just called my doc office and left a message that I will be stopping the meds.  Can i ask you wheny you had this bad reaction and went to the ER did they just tell you to stop it?  Did you feel better (other than the muscle weakness) soon after stopping it?

This is scaring me now reading the effects that others had.  I feel like crap, nausea is bad, dizziness is bad and nuscles in arms and legs are aching.  I took one this morning at 9 and today is the first day of the muscle aches.  But I won't take it again.  I hope i'm okay

It was about 5 years ago I had my reaction. I had many weird symptoms, dizzy, weak limbs, my skin burned and just an inner funny feeling that felt like I I was going to lose consciousness and die.

It's hard to explain. I never had it before nor since.

Of course I got a newer dr that said it can't be the meds because he never heard of it either and his ego couldn't take admitting it.

It was only shortly after I ran into someone else that had weird reactions and I was validated but I had already went off of it myself and not taking it again.

As for how long the symptoms lasted. I guess close to a week I had to endure them until it got out of my system but the first nite was the worst.

Patty, I use to take antibiotics without issue. Suddenly, around age 40 or so, I started getting all the side effects. Cipro was the worst, made me feel I ate rat poison. So yes, it could be the macrobid. I haven't had that one, but many antibiotics make me dizzy and migranous.

I also have dizziness with Cipro and you mentioned around 40 it started. I was at the dr once and told the nurse I will not take that again because of dizziness and she told me they get tons of women around 40ish that cannot take Cipro any longer because of dizziness. My sister is another one. I have not researched this since I already know it does it but I think I will to see if they discovered a reason.

Wow, cheryl. That is so interesting what the nurse told you. Levaquin is like cipro, and it is actually worse for me than cipro. I sat up all night with heart pounding, nausea, dizzy, anxiety thinking I was gonna die. And this was before my migraine dizziness started. I pretty much get bad reactions to all of them. Bactrim was another bad one. I seem to do ok with augmentin, but still get head pressure and slightly rocking feeling.

I wonder why the side effects become so prominent after 40?

I can't do Levaquin either and yes I suppose because it is so much like Cipro. I had a 2 month reaction of muscle weakness to that and my daughter had a reaction as a teenager where her joints were extremely painful and went to several drs and ended up at an Infectious Disease dr who said it was the Levaquin. No wonder there are lawsuit commercials. I hate taking antibiotics because of all these reactions

Levaquin is terrible! My old ENT tried to make me take it and I called and lied and said I had a reaction to it so they'd switch to something else. I read all of the reviews on it and they were terrible so I wasn't chancing it!
