I keep getting bladder infection - Is this could be kidney stones?

I'm totally sick of getting bladder infection for last three years and have tried very hard not to get them by drinking plenty of water, cranberries juice/tablets, stop drinking alcohol and go to totilet straight after sex... I was getting antibiotics 3-4 per a year but just for this year - 3 times already, I finally found a doctor has said, have ultrasound to see if you got kidney stones.. Anyone here had similar experiences as me ? If yes What did they found and what did you had to get done? Tell me what you went through?
Thanks advance

Hi Mareea --
Yes indeed a kidney stone can generate enough nerve activity to simulate a urinary tract infection. (i've currently had a UTI for 3 months from a kidney stone just passed and perhaps one in my kidney -- but there's no infection.) And the pain can be from the stone in the urethral canal or in the kidney itself. An ultrasound may be a good starting point...they will see stones as a highlight on the pix. If you do a catscan it will be more accurate but you don't want to do too many catscans since they involve radiation. My stone took 40 days to pass with a lot of water -- if they see one and it's stuck in the canal they'll likely give you flomax first to try to encourage it to pass. If that doesn't work over 6 weeks they'll make other suggestions. If it's in the kidney itself they may recommend the same thing...good luck.

I have a history of UTI and bladder infections for over 15 years. Despite telling the doctors the dose of antibiotics didn't remedy it completely no one looked any further and they would just give another dose.
This January I had severe pain on my left side and a simple X-ray exposed bilateral staghorn kidney stones.
Get an X-Ray.
I am going in for surgery again this week and hopefully I'll be stone free soon.

I am in a similar positilon to you.
UTI's due to kidney stone.
My stone is large, too big to either blast or pass. So I was referred to a consultant at Hereford.
He has now referred me to someone else ( it will be the fourth person I have been referred to) and still no one has removed the stone.
I am totally fed up with the pain and discomfort, had enough.
I have an appointment with a GP next week and the way I am feeling at the moment he had better be warned of my mood and arrival.!!!!
Hope you get this sorted soon.
Keep in touch
Sarah xx
