i have been dealing with depression for a wile, almost 6 years now. when i was 14 is when i first got depressed, but 15 is when i got put on antidepressants. the meds did not work for a wile and i went threw 3 types before i found one that works by then i was 16 . my mom was not too exited about me being on the medication but it helped so she left me on it. i still take them and thats the reason i think that i'm still here. i have my tough times and the times that i just cant deal with life. but then there is the every once in a while when i feel okay and happy, but that never lasts long.

Hi Taylor, what is it with doctors and their cure all smarties? This is their reaction to antidepressants. They are awful things, now you're 20/21, you make your own choice and think whether you need antidepressants or not. I am 45 and despite my doctor insisting i took them i never did, intact i said i was talking st. John's wort, which is a herbal antidepressant that has been around for years. I will not be coerced in to taking ANYTHING that i don't feel is useful because at the end of the day it's my body and i don't want to after years of being dumped on them and left. What you do is up to you, i hope whatever happens you're able to function. Good luck

I have been on anti-depressant medications off and on since I was 23 (1977). Though there can be side effects, the key is whether they are effective. Depression has physical components.
