I know its was amlodipine!

I am a healthy 58 yr old and normally very active. BP was rising over the last year or so to 178/98 and so this Jan my Doc put me on Amlodipine 5mg. Thats when it started. Firstly with a loss of energy, then total loss of stamina, I felt like a Zombie all the time. As the month progressed I started to get forgetful, dizzy spells, very tingly left hand and painful joints all througfh my left side. BP did not drop as fast as hoped so Doc added Lisinopril 2.5mg. Hey... off with the faries now! After two weeks I could not concentrate on anything people were telling me and to the point that I was becoming detached from the real world. And that was only after a couple of weeks on the cocktail. I decided to trial which drug was causing this and first removed the Lisinopril for a few days then swapped over to stopping Amlodipine. Cor.. what a difference. Almost the next day after stopping Amlodipine I started to recover. After just one week people at work are now saying 'welcome back' and I know what they mean. BP not down yet but I am never going near Amlodipine again, its a wrecker!

Has anyone else had anything like my reaction?

My mother has been on amlodipine 10 mg for more than 1 year. Doctors haven been able to regulate her bp. She is 79. About one month ago she had severe edema in her legs and lungs. We were able to get rid of her fluid. She has been exhibiting signs of paranoia..someone was coming and taking her clothes, accusing my father of bazaars things and then it hit, she completely lost her short term memory. Today I find this sight and I am stopping amlodopine. Thank you for sharing, and I hope this will bring my mom back.

My wife aged 70 was on amlodipine for several years. She was suffering most of the symptoms that are stated in relation to this drug. She stopped suddenly and with no repercussions and felt better within a few days. I think the problem is: What do you do to replace Amlodipine. There is the natural way, to get in better overall health which may well decrease your BP If you are overweight, you must get rid of the surplus by

improved diet and increase your exercise My wife started by walking two miles a day and then increased this to three. Also you should consult your GP as to what you intend to do. You should find he is keen to help, maybe not but it is your body. However, make no bones about it, high BP can be a serious threat to your health

Since my son brought a dog home, after promising he would take care of her, I'm the dog care giver, but she could be a blessing in disguise. Although I do weight training, during the summer months here in central Florida, it's a sauna, so I do not do much out door activity, except for some bicycle riding.

However, I've noticed since I've been walking the dog, alot, my feet have not swelled up from the Amlodipine. This is a first for me, I used to take water pills every few days for the swelling, She's a pain in the butt, but she's helping me.

Like I said only four days in how am I going to feel by the time I have my check up in two months?

The doctor put me on this medication with my other medications i had taken for years because they started messing with my meds because I ended up in the hospital with my blood pressure bottoming out and in kidney failure.  Due to dropping weight. It been a rollercoater ride with the blood pressure.them pulling me off too much med then it went too high.Needless to say when I went to the doctor 2 weeks after taking amlodipine my soles were on fire my feet and legs were red all the way up to the knees and the knees hurt so bad I couldn't stand it. I went from walking not bothering me to it hurting so bad to walk.the doctor told me double it from 5 to 10 even after I showed her my legs and told her what was going on. Needless to say I went out of her office quit the medication and found another doctor. This one has feeling like my old self and a human being. i will never take that stuff again.

I'm wondering if weight training is countering the effects of Amlodipine 10 mg. After taking the med plus Metoprolol, and Losartan I train with heavy weights for about an hour. I rest about a minute between sets to stay warm, and stretch after the workout.

I don't feel as tired and run down as when I first started, and of course all of the walking I do with my dog has helped with my swollen feet, no more swelling. So, is exercise the thing to do to relieve the negative effects, as well as calm the nerves, works for me at 76.

Nigel, for the last 2 years I have been on 10mg Amlodipine together with 2 other BP pills.Since starting taking Amlodipine, loss of energy and stamina, dizzy spells, forgetfulness, no concentration span and Zombie-like I can associate with. I have told my specialist and G.P. about the effects and that I am wiped out 24/7 and am considering entering the "Olympics for sleeping". Their permanent and repeat consensus seems to be "you are better off being worn out and still alive". As I now have no quality of life compared to before, I disagree.

My doctor also refuses to take me off of Amlodipine 10 mg. I have the same probem of being sleepy, and feel out of it, but it's been getting better. I know I've written about this before, but it's worth repeating, I fight the effects by lots of walking, and weight training. I realize most of you are not into lifting weights, but exercise seems to be the way to overcome what we all go through. It may seem counter to how you feel, and the last thing on your mind is to exercise when all you want to do is rest, but if your tired of being tired, give it a go, and talk to a pertsonal trainer, this could be the answer to your problems.

They can't refuse to take you off Amlodipine - it's your body, your choice - and they should be able to replace it with something that agrees with you. Having said that, I'm rapidly exhausting all of the different BP pills, but my quality of life on some of them was zilch.  Now about to try GP gym referral - hope I last more than a few minutes at that!

They can't refuse to take you off the medication but they will give you an attitude and keep pressing the issue. Like u said it's your body and you know how you feel and you have the right to refuse. let them get mad. That drug is a drug from hell. That drug had the soles of my feet burning. My feet and legs red to my knees. Knees hurting so bad I could hardly walk and I only took it for two weeks and I quit and changed doctors. This doctor in so many words said it will make you retain fluid and give you problems. I am

Ironic, last night I woke with severe pain on the sole of my left foot, I could hardly walk, I thought it was due to calf work I do on a seated leg press machine, anyway it's better today.

I know I could stop the Amlodipine, but for now my BP is good for me, and the fatigue isn't as bad as it was since I fight it with working out,
