I know its was amlodipine!

I am a healthy 58 yr old and normally very active. BP was rising over the last year or so to 178/98 and so this Jan my Doc put me on Amlodipine 5mg. Thats when it started. Firstly with a loss of energy, then total loss of stamina, I felt like a Zombie all the time. As the month progressed I started to get forgetful, dizzy spells, very tingly left hand and painful joints all througfh my left side. BP did not drop as fast as hoped so Doc added Lisinopril 2.5mg. Hey... off with the faries now! After two weeks I could not concentrate on anything people were telling me and to the point that I was becoming detached from the real world. And that was only after a couple of weeks on the cocktail. I decided to trial which drug was causing this and first removed the Lisinopril for a few days then swapped over to stopping Amlodipine. Cor.. what a difference. Almost the next day after stopping Amlodipine I started to recover. After just one week people at work are now saying 'welcome back' and I know what they mean. BP not down yet but I am never going near Amlodipine again, its a wrecker!
Has anyone else had anything like my reaction?

Do Not Take This Drug.
Wow, I can not believe amlodipine 10mg is on the market. I was on it for about 2 month and kept telling my Dr. that I was so tired that after 2 hours of working at home I had to go back to bed and fell into a deep sleep for 2-3 hours and woke up tired. But the amazing thing is the story above describes me to the tee what happened to me. I told my dr. that I was going off the medication and it only took 1 night not taking the drug and I woke up back to myself. The head fog was gone, memory back, engery back, sleepness gone and I was not walking around like a zombie. This is no joke you are like a zombie.

I came across this discussion today and I'm so thankful. I have been on this medication for a few months now, going from 5mg to 10mg. I have never felt so utterly ill in my life. It started with the swelling of one foot and has now progressed to multiple side effects. I started to get joint pain in my little finger (right hand) which spread to the whole of my hand, up my arm to my elbow and now it's down the right leg. It's awful and I can't use my hand for simple opening of bottles etc. I then got a rash, all down my right side which started at my groin, and stomach pain too (which I have recently had blood tests and an ultrasound to try to figure out why I have ongoing stomach pain).. I feel tired all the time and emmotional too. I honestly cannot continue like this and it only occured to me today that it could be the Amlodipine!! I am going to stop taking it and contact my GP on Monday to try to get something different for my high blood pressure. Oh and I have had lots of tremors!! they are so unnerving!

Hi Deborah
have you checked what calcium channel blockers do to Choline . does lodi cause a decline in choline . what happens to calcium when it is blocked from blood vessels where does it go . does it just stay in the liver , maybe causing fatty live disease, Is the lack of choline the thing that is causing all the aches pains leg swelling ect ect

I took a lot of combo to control my gestational hypertension and post partum preeclampsia. I started with nifedipine but was later changed to amlo plus metropolol. I had a very slow heartbeat/ irregular heartbeat and chest pain. So it was later changed to 5/50mg amlo/losartan plus nebivolol. At first twas okay until the 3rd day, I started having chest pain again, can't breath, blurred vision, hyperacidity, muscle pain back pain and a weird sensation..seems that something is crawling inside you...nightmares, sleeplessness, dizziness..thought it was because of nevibolol alone so i told my cardio i stopped taking it. i continued taking amlo but my chest pain worsen and i had the worst night ever. my chest hurt so much and i can't breath well. i had chills and very cold sweat all over my body..i was so afraid that i'd die...so i decided to stop taking meds at all. a day after that, i felt a little better but still i have episodes of chest pain, dizziness and that weird crawlies..also sleeplessness continues..i am more concern of the chest pain..it bothers me a lot. anyone experiences chest pain? and how long will this last after stopping amlo? i took amlo for 2 weeks.

I have never written on a forum before about any medication.
I recently started taking this medication about 3 months ago.
Approximately 1 month ago, i started experimenting dizziness.
Thought this could be related to the anxiety ive also been experiencing. I have GAD for most of my life, but never like this. Spent the weekend bin the ER for possible blood clot- negative. CT on brain- negative Ultra sound of carotid arteries and artery in leg- negative Doctors could see my coordination problems and dizziness, from squatting to standing, from sitting to standing. They said i am puzzle!
Since reading reviews on this medication, i can agree with lots of the side affects. I was on 2.5 mg.
Brain fog, increased anxiety, Horrible dizziness, chatter in my brain when trying to sleep. Forgetfulness.
Im on 4th day of stopping this med, on the advice of doctors to rule out if this is the cause.Ive read it can take upwards of 11 + days for it to completely leave your body. I pray to God this dizziness stops.

What was the substitute prescribed for Amlodipine? Is Diltiazem or Felodipine any good? Do all CCBs have the same side effects?
