I'm 24, just been told I have barretts, breathing difficulties?!?

since last year, I have been back and forth to the doctors with multiple health issues.

I have had chest pains, sickness, heartburn, headaches and I'm always tired.

About 3 months ago I was finally sent to see a specialist because doctors believed I had gallbladder problems, after spending two weeks bed bound in excruciating pain.

After an ultrasound and endoscopy I have been told I have a hiatus hernia and Barratts osephagus.

My consultant has told me me, due to my age I am a unique case and it is above his expertese to be able to advise what to do, so he has referred me on to another specialist, who I am still waiting to hear from.

However, for the past few weeks I am struggling to be able to take a full breath, and feel like I just need more oxygen, my consultant said it isn't related and I now have to see a chest physician next week, but I really feel it could be related, has anyone else had this??

Hi Stephanie, Unfortunately, I have come across others in your age group with Barretts and Hyatis Hernia (which seem to go hand in hand) I think the breathing can be an issue because of the throat, oesophagus restriction, I suffer when I have eaten the wrong things, or drinks for that matter, when it feels to me as if my throat is on fire!! which I just dont do anymore, so I would suggest trying to stick rigidly to the right foods and drinks for a while to see if this helps, but it certainly seems that you need a little more investigation.  I think sometimes, they are all to eager once Barretts is diagnosed to leave you to manage diet etc and monitor and you have to push for further support

Hi , I was 36 when I got diagnosed with the same thing. They dont seem keen on keeping an eye on me as they say I'm too young to have it so therefore it doesn't cause concern. I also have the breathing and chest pain. If you find any answers let me know as I'm also at a loss. I agree though that being careful to avoid foods that worsen symptoms helps alot smile I hope you get help soon.
