I'm a 22 year old male and I was just diagnosed with Achalasia after a year of pain and many more of a low appetite. I of course have been told a heller myotomy is my best option, but I am curious if anyone out there has any herbal/diet/alternative treatments that they know of. I just can't accept cutting up my body this early in my life. I know there has to be an alternative out there some where. Any info anybody has would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I am a 48 year old male and was diagnosed with Achalasia at your age of 22. I spent a bad year loosing weight hating mealtimes and using, innefective, muscle relaxants until finally deciding to go for the recommended Heller's operation. I can honestly say it transformed my life as I have been able to eat properly almost from coming round from the op. There is no cure for this thing at present but I understand the operation can now be done with keyhole surgery rather than the major surgery I had. The upside of being young is that you will recover quickly. Only downside for me has been intermittent bouts of heartburn and slight ulseration of the lower gut, treated with reflux supressors.

Go for the op, food is the only pleasure you can have three times a day, every day of your life!

hi, I'm 21, and was diagnosed with achalasia earlier this year. I have to have keyhole surgery. ask ur doctor about that option. it is minimimally invasive. I'm due for the surgery on the 26th of this month. i am scared, as i am sure u are. where are u based, and where are u having it done? there are things people have suggested to me. homeopathy.; cimcifuga 6c, or there are calcium channel blockers. these aren't permanent treatments tho. but u can take them to ease symptoms till ur surgery. take care and all the best of luck, kia

    Hello

My name is Gail Titchener and I am a freelance writer contributing to several women's magazines as well as

the women's and health pages of The Sun, The Express and The Mirror.

I am currently looking to speak to a female achalasia suffer - or a woman with a child who has the condition that would be happy to talk to me about their experience of living with this condition.

Case studies should be willing to be named and photographed and should not have appeared in any other

    weekly women's magazines.

Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Kind Regards

    Gail Titchener
