I'm always thinking I have a terminal illness and that I'm going to get Cancer

Hi, I am constantly worried that I am going to have cancer or some serious illness. This is practically consuming my life. My bloodwork has come back normal, but I'm worried I have a random tumor somewhere. I have back pain all the time, so I must have spinal cancer. Or if I have diarrhea I must have colon cancer. I spend spot of time googling symptoms and everything always says cancer. Help

your being a hypochondriac. If you bloodwork came back fine, it's impossible for you to have a fatal illness. It would be been detected. Bloodwork tells literally EVERYTHING. & if it came back normal, then your fine. Except that you are. Our body's do weird stuff sometimes. Your not going to feel perfect all the time. But that doesn't mean your going to die just because you have an ache or you have diarrhea or a headache. Calm down. Your tests are fine, & so are you.

I try really hard not to worry, it's very hard. In my mind it all seems real. I want to feel normal and not have these awful thoughts.

Thank you for responding. Sometimes it helps just to talk about it.

Trust me I know how you feel. I'm 16 &i thought u had a heart problem. Went to the er 3 times, 4 ekgs, 3 chest xrays, blood tests, echocardiogram, holter monitors, all over skipped beats lol. I know it's EXTREMELY hard cause i've dealt with the same thing. Couldn't go anywhere, didn't go to school, wasn't eating, it's terrible i know. But your not dying. If you keep thinking something wrong then of course your brain is going to go in defense mode & react. So change your mindset, think positive, eat healthy, drink water. I prayed because they're are plenty of scriptures in the Bible that talk about worry, anxiety, & fear. Try to remember this: "be strong, be courageous, for God is with you whever you go" ?

Rebecca i suffer from health anxiety and it is a form of ocd. We basically get hung up on a thought. The best treatment is not giving into compulsions so ur obsession is ur thought ie i have cancer. Ur compulsion is too google and try and seek reasurance. This basically fules the vicious circle. I promise u that stopping the googling will help it is hard but trust me xxx

Sometimes back pain can be caused by posture. You mention cancer of the spine you need to look for the simple first not the complex. If you had your bloods done and they are all ok the chance of cancer is very slight especially if you are stil young. Also if you now feel the need to have colon cancer I would advise you to have the tests although the latter can make your eyes smart.

If you are still googling that is a mugs game, that will make you feel you have all sorts of cancer awaiting to be discovered/

Talk to your GP he will try and put your mind at rest. Make a list of your concerns and explain your concerns. After the test I would advise you accept the results, many test can be unpleasent and if you get them repeated some can cause health problems.

If you have your Colon checked, ask for a sedative.

    Hi Rebecca,

I wish it was as easy as saying to stop worrying, but I know that want work. So, what I suggest is for you to busy yourself doing other things that will benefit you and your health. Exercise as much as you can daily, eat healthy, drink lots of water, don’t use any processed refined sugar, do  medication or some type mindfulness daily, do some volunteer work to help others. read something positive daily and think positive thoughts. Get a piece of paper and write  a list of these things and checked them off daily. I promise if you fill your entire day doing these things, all those negative thoughts  in your mind will go away. Any time a negative thought come into your head, replace it with something positive. For example when you think 🤔 you have cancer; think🤔 how lucky you are to be alive. Best wishes for you Rebecca!

Thank you! I have definitely been working on my diet. Going to the gym is hard as I work fulltime and have 2 kids. It may be worth it in the long run.

DO NOT GOOGLE YOUR SYMPTOMS!! That will not help at all if you ever have questions maybe call your doctor and not rely so much on google! Everything on google will lead to something but I have a lot of symptoms of diabetes but I don’t have it!! It’s not in my genes but your anxiety is playing tricks on you! Don’t believe what it’s telling you it’s a big liar and try to ignore it if you can maybe do something to get your mind off of it such as coloring or music!!
