I'm beginning to get frustrated.

Hi everyone I'm now 4 Months tkr I feel like there is something going on in the lateral side of my knee. It feels like there is gears or something there
I know it sounds odd but that's the only at I can explain what's going on, it's painful stretching and bending. The Dr says give it another few months but this doesn't feel like a healing pain, and "the gears" keep grinding away. Has anyone else had this problem.

I would want to see someone else...key is you say it doesn't feel like healing pain...that is your instinct, follow it if concerned.

Hi Margaret, I don't quite get what you mean by "gears". Please tell us more.

It's hard to describe Cheryl but it feels like metal rubbing on metal. I'm sure that's what's clunking which I'm not concerned about but I am concerned about the pain on certain movement. It's on the lateral side of my knee, the rest of the knee is really good and if it wasn't for this I feel I'd be on the way to recovery.

I wish I could suggest something, but I agree totally with everyone, especially when jenny80029 said to see another ortho just to be safe. Also I hope you're still seeing a physio. Please let us know how you go. Personally I have found that my GP is great but says that it's not his specialty. Best to see another Ortho.

I know that feeling. My doctor say scar tissue. I'm at 5 months and still have that feeling, like I can feel the devic.

I have another appointment with my doctor in Sept and he'll decide then whether to do a scope or not. My bend is about 105 now and I can walk pretty well except for stiffness when I get up. There are random and weird pains at different times but they always seem to resolve themselves. Last week it felt like I had water running down my knee, oh those pesky nerves healing😻
Its hard to say if a pain is normal. I'd call my surgeons office if I felt uneasy. The clinic I went to has a nurse on call for me. I can call her if I was worried about anything and I have used this service especially in the early days. She could tell me if the pain was normal or not. It was always normal. Maybe your clinic has a nurse you could talk to if your surgeon is hard to see or maybe a physicians assistant. Good luck to you.

Thank you for that info. Please keep us informed on whether you have the scope or not. I may have to see someone privately, I'm in South Australia and hospitals are going through "transition health" so hospitals closing and a state of the art one opening meanwhile we (the public) are left wondering.

I had what I think you're describing. It's like a rubbing, grinding feeling. My surgeon did a scope about 2 weeks ago. She found a lot of scar tissue, and was able to remove it. I could immediately straighten my leg with no more pain or the grinding feeling. Praying that all works out for you.

Thank you Donna, it's so helpful to know someone else has had this feeling, and we're able to have it fixed. Much appreciated.
