I'm confused - 3 years ago I was told I had enlarged nonalocholic liver disease -

On follow my health one doctor indicated that I had NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis). I made an appointment with my primary doctor and he indicated that the nonalcoholic liver disease has progressed and now I have NASH. I guess I should have tried to lose some weight but no doctor ever told me what exactly I needed to do.
I have been having severe pain on my right side above the rib cage and it wakes me up at night. It now hurts when I raise my right arm up. Could this be caused from NASH? I don't really understand this. Has anyone have this pain when they raise their arm up?
Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Ruby, & NASH is usually differentiated from simple fatty liver when liver enzymes are chronically elevated. When ALT (liver enzyme) gets to double the normal level over 2 or more labs, then inflammation is chronically high and you're in NASH territory.
Liver pain is quite commonly reported, this despite the fact the liver itself has no nerves that transmit pain. "Glisson's Capsule" surrounding the liver does have pain sensitive nerves, and it is said the liver hurts when Glisson's Capsule is stretched by an enlarged fatty liver.
The "PIVENS trial" showed Natural Vitamin-E may be the best medicine for fatty liver. Look for "Natural" vitamin-E "with mixed tocopherols" for best results. "Lecithin" has also been shown helpful at resolving fatty liver.
Curcumin has also been shown to be effective at reducing inflammation in the liver.
Always best to run any supplement you are considering past your doc before you buy or try, but these are all fairly benign supps.
Lecithin and Vitamin-E with mixed tocopherols are both quite cheap. Curcumin can be a bit pricey.
Hope you find something helpful to get you back to better health soon!

Thank you so much for your reply. I really don't know much about this at all. My primary told me I needed to lose weight and try and eat healthy. I said is that it? His reply was "Pretty Much". I don't know if I should find someone who specializes in liver diseases and see if they can give me more information or just try and do this on my own.
My entire stomach is swollen and hard, which it was not previously.
Thank you again for your reply.
