    Dear Pleasehelp,

You'll have to supply a little more information to assist in making the correct diagnosis.

    1. When did this rash start? Was it after sex with a new or current partner?
    2. It looks like the skin is broken (ulcerated). Is this the case?
    3. Is it painful or itchy or doesn't hurt at all?
    4. Have you had this problem before? Like in the same area?
    5. Are the glands in your groin swollen or painful?
    6. Do you feel feverish or flu'ey?

If you can answer some of these questions, we might be able to help.

    Rgds,

    Adhari.

this rash has formed a couple days ago (I'd say about 2). Ive had the same sex partner for about 5 months now. I have not recently had sex in the past 2 weeks. There is pain due to clothing rubbing against it. I have had history of yeast infection rashes and was diagnosed with folliculitis about two years ago around my genital area on my inner thighs near somewhat closer to the vaginal opening that have looked similar to ulcer like rashes. this however is more further up on the vulva near the opening so it made me more concerned. I have noticed very dry, flaky patches on my vaginal lips about a day ago & I have not experienced any flu like symptoms at all in the past few days or weeks. I havent noticed any abnormal discharging that has any odor either.

The picture that was initially posted with the post was a picture fresh out of the shower. These two pictures are current before I prepare for a shower. Ive noticed that my lips have now appeared to look irritated in some sort kind of reddish? Im still confused as to if Im just having a very bad yeast infection, folliculitis, or a hsv2 outbreak (for Ive had a yeast and folliculitis outbreak before but never on the lips). Hopefully I will be able to schedule an appointment with a obgyn during this crazy pandemic to get down to the bottom of this

    Dear Pleasehelp,

Thank you for the information. From your description, it could simply be a bad case of folliculitis. I'm glad you're seeing your specialist. Please ask them to take swabs for bacterial infection as well as for herpes, as herpes can often be mistaken for folliculitis, and vice-versa. I don't think candida is likely- it usually affects the vaginal lining and not the vulva in such a limited way (as demonstrated in your photo).

If you're experiencing some discomfort, I suggest you take painkillers (paracetamol) and gently cleaning the area with warm salt water applied with cotton wool balls until the area heals/dries up. It would also be sensible to avoid sex in the meantime.

    Rgds,

    Adhari.
