I'm glad that I've found this site, I didn't know there were so many people who suffer from blepharitis. I was diagnosed with it a couple of years ago after I had a bad eye infection. It's nasty, I have a constant feeling of grittiness in my eyes and really bad itching. Then I get blurry vision which is a real pain, some days I can't drive. It's so frustrating! If I manage to get the symptoms under control it does go away for a few months. But if it gets bad I feel like somebody has punched me in both eyes, and even the bathing techniques are painful. Why isn't more research being done into this condition? I read somewhere on a forum that a guy was told by a doctor, the reason for lack of research is because the symptom doesn't cause blindness. Pretty ridiculous really considering some of the advances of science. They can clone sheep, put man on the moon and create designer babies, but they can't help an eye condition, except to tell people to wash it with Johnsons baby shampoo!

    Hi,

Blepharitis is caused by staphylococcus. Just google Blepharitis. The WET ONES, antibacterial handwipes, can kill staphylococcus. Google Quats.

A friend of mine used an antibacterial facial scrub with Benzethonium Chloride in it and killed her Blepharitis. She had the kind that went up onto her eyelids (where you wear mascara.

I could not find that product so found WET ONES by googling what had Benzethonium Chloride in it.

Honjon, on this site, used the wipes sold in the UK. They have Benzalkonium Chloride in them. They worked too. Both of these are ammonium salt compounds or Quats. Quats kill Staphylococcus.

Granted, I found this after I killed my Blepharitis.

People who are allergic to shampoos, detergents, handwipes, fabric softeners or even spermicidal jellies cannot use these. The wipes also have lanolin in them. some are  allergic to this.

So about 80% of people can kill their Blepharitis with this product.

I was able to use mascara and kill the Bleph too. That involves using throw away mascara wands and never putting a used one into the new mascara, That goes for all makeup.

You also need to use 2 wash cloths (one for each eye) to clean your face. I used white so as to put into the bleach load.

I started by using the wipes 4 times a day for a week and a half. The next month was 3 times a day. The last 2 months were 2 times a day. After that, it itched once or twice and I jumped on it for a day or two with the wipes and it was gone.

This is an over the counter cure so not many will be interested in this.

Please research and see this information for yourself.

Hope you get the relief that many are getting now,

I'm so pleased there is someone as frustrated as I am. I totally agree with everything you have said. Have tried everything. Nothing works!!!

Im waiting for some response, regarding apparatus called BlepEX , whereby they expholiate top and bottom eye lids and lashes. Duration, a couple of minutes.

Of course, this is all happening in USA. Phoned London, and they are CONSIDERING  buying this equipment, well, that was January .

Hope your not in too much pain, but like me, will there ever be an end to this Crap!!!?

      Dear Mary,

I just went to the Dr. a couple of weeks ago and mentioned the BLephEx machine and she said that it was for people with Demodex.

When I googled Blephex it showed that there were 19 locations of Dr.'s using it in the UK.

I read online a doctor said that 100% of people over the age of 90 have Demodex. My friend is over 90 and I used the wipes on her lashes 2 times a week to keep hers under control. When I started she had eyes glued almost shut and her fingers were in her lashes as it itched. The wipes work on it for her. I do wipe her skin off with water and a tissue afterward as her skin is so old. She has just a little when I do it the next time.

The machine uses tea tree oil and that does kill staphylococcus. Google tea tree oil. That oil needs to be watered down as some said it burns.

      Hope this info helps you.

Hi, Linda. Have been on my iPad 3 hrs looking for UK doctors who perform the BlepHex procedure. No joy!!! I'm thinking this is a total hoax. You have been so kind giving me update regarding UK involvement , but don't understand why it's so difficult to find a doctor in Kent who performs this procedure.  I'm wondering why you are not going down this route. Is there anyone on this forum who has had this done. I'm adamant to have this done. I live in Canterbury and any help would be so much appreciated. Where are you? Thank you so so much. You are an Angel X

      Dear Mary,

I live in California, US. I killed my Blepharitis over a year and a half ago.

That is why I posted on how I did it. My friend killed it first with an antibacterial facial scrub but they no longer make it with Benzethonium Chloride in it.

I looked on line and asked the question "What products have Benzethonium Chloride in it?" Away I went.

I realized (from research) that Blepharitis is caused by a staphylococcus infection. The wipes kill that. The ingredients are called Quats. Of course, I found this out afterward. Some are allergic to these. People who are allergic to shampoo, detergents, fabric softeners, hand wipes and even spermicidal jellies should not use the wipes on their eyes.

The doctor I went to said they use this machine on people with Demodex or those mites on their lashes. Just plain Blepharitis people may not get the use of it. I am not sure, just going off what the doctor told me.

I take care of someone and pretty sure she has that problem as the yellow in long on her lashes. Not too much now as use wipes 2 times a week on her. Working but can't do it enough to kill it completely as her skin is so old so I just keep it so it doesn't bother her. Started out her lashes were glued shut.

They use tea tree oil on the end of that little rotating machine. Tea tree oi has to be diluted. Tea tree oil kills staphylococcus. I doubt it can kill it off only doing it 2-4 times a year.

      Hope this info helps you,

      Hi Lynda.

Havent been on the forum for a while. One question! Someone mentioned tee tree oil which they said was really good. How was it used? Is it watered down? Do you use it just like the wipes? Sorry, but I can't find who mentioned this, and because you are so popular I thought maybe you would know

Lynda, have just read your text above my reply. It was you who mentioned tee tree oil with the blephex  procedure. Has anyone used the oil to clean their eyes?

      Dear Mary,

I have not used the tea tree oil but when I googled the BlexEx machine it mentioned that they use that. When I googled tea tree oil it mentioned that it kills staph too.

Someone who used it mentioned she used it too strong and that it needed to be watered down.

You could call and talk to someone where they use the BlepEx machine and see if they would give you some information on how much they use of the tea tree oil. It kills staph but I doubt it could do it in one setting or 2-4 times a year. Just keep it under control I think.

You could experiment and water it down a lot and see if it did anything.

      Wish you well,

    Hi,

Yes i agree with u entirely, why cant they find a cure for it.

And its not good enough, what they say, use baby shampoo, even my eye specialist said to use baby shmpoo, its just so stupid ,you would think an eye specialist would be more switched on.

I caught this horrible eye disease in January 2014 after having minor surgery in a private hospital, which had nothing to do with eyes. There was a nurse present before i went in to the theatre, who said that my eyes looked so sore and dry so she poured some saline water in them.

I realise that this was when i contracted this disease, because in a few days after my surgery i got all these crusts over my eyelids (horrible) and since then i have had numerous breakouts.

Of course one has no way of proving this is where i caught it, but this is the first time in my life i have had this disease and i am 67yrs old.

I have had cataract surgery 2yrs ago and have been diagnosed the last 6 months with Glucoma.

    Not a very happy vegemite.

I am in early 40's with 2 little children and am being treated for glaucoma myself. I fear I will go blind and not see them grow up or grandchildren...even worse...one day they will have this horrible disease. I fear going blind completely. It is in both eyes. No support groups here either. Doctors give you diagnosis and then you are on your own....depressed and lifeless and scared

I had some advice and was told to use refresh drops to lubricate eyes a few times a day. I am assuming mine was caused by my drops for high eye pressure.
