I’m going crazy!!!

Hi all,

I’ve had this problem for some time now to be honest and it’s really worrying at times, I’m only 15, a boy so you could imagine. Anyways as it started a few months ago at least 3-4 months ago it looked like Threadworms but then I quickly realised from recent symptoms it wasn’t threadworms in fact it was Mucus not threadworms.

Anyways I had some medsion from a pharmacist to get rid of them as I thought at that time it was threadworms. Anyways moving on after that a couple days later I had bright red spots of blood on the toilet paper, but there wasn’t in fact any blood on the stools itself. They were completely fine at the time. And then the blood and toilet paper stopped and I haven’t had it since, and then about a week later I saw mucus that looked flakey on the sides of my stools. And that kinda freaked me out as it would for anyone, and still no blood on stool. And then that disappeared and I thought that was gone, and then about a week later it came back and stayed that was ever since, sometimes there’s quite a bit of mucus and sometimes just a little bit. And sometimes it’s accompined by bits of blood on the stool. And it’s been like that ever since the blood is only there sometimes.

My recent symptoms have been:

Blood in stools

Mucus around stools

Sometimes some cramping

Constipation

And diharrea

My symptoms usually matched up to ulcerative colitis

Any help?!

Have you been back to the docs?

I’ve been to the doctors and I had a blood test and everything was normal. But clearly not

Maybe having a stool sample checked might be a good place to start?  You should go back and check with the doctor, and try not to worry.

It could be related to some sort of infectious diarrhea cause.  Sometimes a course of antibiotics or antifungal medication is needed.  You should pop in to see the doctor in case he/she wants to prescribe something.

That's good.  I bet it is some sort of infection and you'll be feeling better soon!  Take care.

Hi Nay,  Sorry I didn't reply to your other post last week -- I seemed to have missed it -- I have replied now (to the other post which is being mediated -- I included some info from a website on bowel disorders...) and am summarizing my reply here.  Just like you I was pretty young, 17, and everyone would say to me ---  oh dear, you are too young to have that problem ... well, bowel problems do happen to young people and much more often than most people realize.   -- so my story which of course doesn't mean it will be the same as yours -- but I think the more knowledge you have the better.

At 17 I had blood every time I went to the loo (1970s) which was quite frightening (and went on actually until I had surgery several months later).   I went to a colo rectal surgeon who said that I had fissure inside the rectum (which was like a small sore -- about an inch long?).  The fissure was caused by infected small anal glands (pockets they called crypts ... cryptitis); my glands (crypts) were a little larger than normal and because of that became infected.   This in turn also caused hemorrhoids (which looking back was not too significant).   The only cure in those days was surgery which involved cutting out the fissure (the sore), and the a lot of the glands (crypts), and  ...... a sphincterotomy - cutting into the inner anal sphincter (which has caused me lots of problems in the past 10 years).  The surgeon said that I would never have a problem after the surgery with hemorrhoids or fissures after the surgery -- which was true -- although I did have other troubles which included IBS, and then in my 50s a rectal prolapse which probably was related to the surgery.

I hope that this helps -- I know you are young and it is such a nuisance and frightening, but a good colorectal specialist will be able to help.  By the way I went to St Marks Hospital in London who are bowel specialists and really are the best in case you don't have luck locally.

Kind regards, and keep me posted. Karen
