I'm having surgery for bunionette (Taylor's bunion) on Monday. Trying to get prepared!

I'm having surgery Monday...it will include Taylor's bunionectomy, Hallux varus (big toe leaning toward middle of body), Morton's neuroma, and straightening other toes if needed. (I'm 58). I had a double bunionectomy 27 years ago! And still remember the pain! My daughter is going to stay with me for 4 or 5 days, then my boyfriend from out-of-town for a while. I teach school, and will need to get back to work as soon toward the end of august as I can. Just trying to think of things to do before Monday! Thanks!!!

Hej. I don´t know exactly your procedure but I'm now 5 weeks post op with surgery, 2 screws to straighten big toe and one hammertoe tightend. Was just thinking I could have used a little advice, so here is mine; shop as much as you can before of food etc, have remidies to cool your foot to minimize the swelling, have a compression sock available – it might come handy in, arrange your self, so you don´t have stair to climb, but an easy way to the lou, foot high as much as you can, have books, your lab top, writing thing etc near, so you don´t have to walk on crutches and not all time have to ask for help (I'm getting so tired of asking for help, but then again the foot should keep still as much as possible). I was sleeping with the window open near my elevated foot in order to keep it a little cooler, and it made a difference. Next time I would get a little table or so on wheels in order to be able to transport coffee or so back to the sofa on crutches. I find the cooling of the foot helps with the pain a lot, but I needed strong painkiller as well in the beginning. My big problem is that the foot burns and swells still the moment it is not elevated, but hope it will be different for you having to go back to school. I work with the labtop on my stomach from hope :-.) You might also consider taking a good dosis of vitamine C, zinc, vitamine B (+12) and calcium, magnesium etc. in order prepare your body before op and certainly afterwards to help your recovery. And massage your foot in sesame oil or aloe vera once the stiches is out to help the circulation and healing.

    The best of good luck:-)

Sorry for my English, I'm a Dane, hope you understood some of it anyway ;-)

I appreciate you taking the time to write this!!! (Tak) I have until Monday and I am getting a little nervous ! I guess mostly I am afraid of the pain. The table on wheels is a great idea! And I'm going to stock up on those vitamins you mentioned. Happy healing to you!!! ??

Selv tak – and thank you for happy healimgs ;-)

Just make sure you are covered with painkillers froom the hospital. I had both iboprofen which is antiimflammatoric as well as other ones some morphine-like. It is also part of the treatment to take these (not the morphine, I guess). An last, when you can make slowy excercises with your foot up in the air (flex the foot slowly) these helps take off the pressure which is part of the pain, so can be a good trick. When woke up they gave me a blockage in the back of ankle, which helped for almost a day to get started alomg with the painkillers. Enough now :-) It's going to be fine for you, I'm sure ;-))

The ultimate best of luck :-))
