I’m having tightness in my throat. What is it?!?

Hello! I’m a 23 year old, female. I have been having issues with my throat & breathing since August 28th. I got a cat in june & found out I WAS in fact allergic to him ( we did get rid of him ) I never have taken medicine my whole entire life till now! So this is super stressful for me. I was rushed to the hospital several times. Seen so many doctors! Got a cat scan (clear), x-rays were also clear and endoscopy everything came back fine with mild acid reflux. ( This is throughout all the months )  I also was told I have enlarged tonsils. I saw my ENT in november and he said my throat was super red and put me on a new acid reflux medicine called Omeprazol. My allergy doctor put me on ARNUITY Fluticasone Furoate 200mcg to help my breathing issues Which I believe helped because that’s when I started eating solids again. He also gave me a sinus spray for postnasel drip to spray everyday. I ended up seeing a new GI because my last one never followed up with me after my endoscopy and he said this doesn’t sound like acid reflux it sounds more like Asthma. So my allergy doctor put me on a stronger breathing medicine (BREO)  which I stopped taking 2 days after because it wasn’t helping me at all & it made my chest feel too tight & it is a very scary medicine. Now currently i’m back on the fluticasone steriod. Taking it in the afternoons now to see if that helps more because as I did state it does get worst at night. So far I don’t see a huge difference my heart races, tightness in the throat, shortness of breathe, I have some kind of spasms when trying to swallow my own saliva sometimes, difficulty swallowing. I woke up on I had one good week which was the week of christmas. January 1st I woke up from a nap and couldn’t breathe at all, took my nebulizer and it did seem to help but not 100% & that’s kind of where everything started going downhill again so here I am! With all these meds its like placing a bandaid on it for a bit and then the bandaid comes off. It tends to get worst late at night. I couldn’t talk at a point or eat but that has improved. I’m still having terrible breathing issues & my throat feels super tight at points and my heart starts racing right after I swallow. I see my ENT this coming thursday to check my tonsils and possibly have them removed. They aren’t that big but they did say they are enlarged. I physically break down everyday because of these feelings and not having a answer yet. Would enlarged tonsils cause all this? What else would cause this? At this point I just need advice and to see if anyone else is going through this or feels this way.

I don't have an opinion on your physical problems but was struck by your writing that the week of Christmas was a good one for you.  Can that possibly mean that you were somewhere else besides in your usual environment?  Just wondering if that might make a difference.  But I will say that enlarged tonsils, unless they closed off your airway entirely, would not affect your breathing that dramatically.  And your nebulizer should help you breathe if it's asthma.  My granddaughter had asthmatic attacks on occasion and takes her nebulizer to school with her.  One day not long ago, she told me she felt she couldn't breathe, used the nebulizer, but it didn't help.  The school nurse thought she was having a panic attack and I would agree that was probably true, although I was not there.  The school called my granddaughter's dad, who happened to be at home, and he came to the school and managed to calm down his daughter.  I think she ended up leaving for home with him.

    Hi,

I hope you are felling better...It doesnt sound like Achalasia. From the outside in, it reads as though stress and anxiety are contributing to this now, and who knows, could even be the only thing keeping it here now. The symptoms of stress and anxiety are real and can be endless... So, maybe try and take that on smile. Obviously suggesting to 'chill out' is the last thing anyone wants to hear - I totally get how unhelpful that can be..... Coming down from these situations can take a few weeks, as the habit needs breaking... Rambling thoughts: Acceptance that the situation is happening is obviously key, but also acceptance that you do not know why. It is happening to you, and thats all you know. By now you have probably exhausted Google looking for answers, and are probably physically exhausted too. So, maybe its break time ! smile Short Time off the worry!! Think of something that will help you have a break off the worry. I use music, or photography or fishing. Or helping others works really well too.... A positive distraction, to get back into the old vibes...

I hope your medical Apt helps, and that you find your ballance again soon...The answers will come I am sure, just try and find that more relaxed you whilst you find them..smile

    Healthy karma and warmest,
