Hello, I'm 17 years old and for about 7 months I haven't felt my best. My doctors said that they can't find anything wrong. I want to try a magnesium supplement just to see if it helps at all. The only problem is that I don't really know were to start. Whats the best magnesium supplement to start with?

Here are some symptoms that I have been experiencing:

• Headaches

vertigo

• fatigue

• tinnitus

• tingly sensations

• lightheaded

• shaky

• very poor memory/ concentration

I just want to try magnesium to see if it makes any difference. Could someone suggest something for me to start with.

Thanks

    Hey Spacebar!

Have you gone to an ENT? It sounds like it might be an inner ear problem.

When you say vertigo, is it like the room is spinning or more of a swaying sensation (like you are moving)?

If you have gone through extensive testing and everything shows up fine, it might be anxiety related. I have experienced almost the same symptoms and after, many months of going to Dr's, I've finally accepted that it is anxiety.

I take Dr's best 100% chelated magnesium. It helps me relax and sleep better. Dose is 2 pills daily.

I haven't gone to an ENT but I've gone to two physicians, and two neurologists. Yes, when I say vertigo I mean the room is spinning/ tapering and my eyes won't stay still. It's not dizziness, it's full on vertigo. My physician said that he doesn't think it's caused by my inner ear and I had an mri and everything seemed normal. I was hoping that maybe it could be something simple that was overlooked or never adressed like a magnesium deficiency.

I have/had something very similar since August now so I understand how frustrating it can be to want to find what's causing it. In my case, the only thing that was found was a vit d deficiency. However, I doubt that explains my continuous symptoms since my vit D is now a normal level. Like I said before, I have now accepted them as anxiety.

My symptoms are/were headache, pressure in head/face, brain fog, depersonalization, vertigo, lightheaded, giddyness, visual changes, balance issues, fatigue to name a few.

I know from experience, it is very annoying when people say "anxiety" because it feels like they are dismissing your symptoms. I understand that no matter how many times someone says anxiety you won't accept it until you come to the realization yourself. If you are thinking "I have no reason to be anxious" I get that too. I cannot tell you what exactly caused my anxiety, some people are just wired that way. The point is, it doesn't matter what caused it, you just need to accept that it's part of you.. for now. I got relief by truly accepting that my symptoms were from anxiety, I went from having them 24/7 to just random moments throughout the day. I've been in therapy for 3 weeks and that has also helped tremendously.

A book that has changed the way I feel and has helped me improve is "Hope and help for your nerves" by Dr. Claire weekes. Give it a try, even if you don't think is anxiety related it can't hurt to read it. It has been a life saver!

Definitely give magnesium a try, it does work wonders to help you relax smile

hi LizzyL. if u've had vitamin D deficiency, it takes some time for the deficiency damage to be corrected - certainly months. many ppl who are D deficient are also low or deficient in b12. the latter causes anxiety as it's involved in so many metabolic processes in the body. if one pathway is out of zinc there's a ripple effect right across the other metabolic body processes.

have ur b12 checked. ask what level it is as u can be symptomatic with ''low normal'' levels.

      best wishes Caitlin.

      Hey Caitlin!

You are right, it takes a few months for your body to recover from the deficiency. I was having many other symptoms like fatigue, joint pain, mild depression, muscle tingling/weakness which I attribute directly to the vit d deficiency because after 6 months, all of those symptoms have disappeared.

However, all my other symptoms didn't start at the same time that I was diagnosed, they came slowly (and kept changing) as I worried endless that it was probably something worse. I suddenly became obsessed with trying to find out what else it could be, googled all day, jump from one self diagnosis to the other. It might be that with my immune system weakened something in my nervous system triggered.

Vertigo, brain fog, giddy, headaches etc are not symptoms of vit D deficiency unfortunately. I wish I could chalked it up to that. My vit B levels are 670 so we'll within the high normal range.

hi spacebar. all of the symptoms u outline fall into the b12 deficiecnt category. ask ur GP to check it for u. many GP's don't screen fro b12 deficiency.

...I know you have been to drs. and checked by them, but sometimes I have found that drs. do not seem to think to check  for   pernicious anemia.  Pernicious anemia causes feelings of weakness, fatique, and other symptoms you mention.  A dr. has to order a special, separate blood test, as regular blood tests do not check for pernicious anemia.  It can be treated easily.  A person with PA cannot utilize iron.  It does no good to take iron suppliments, because the body cannot utilize iron.  It may be something for you to consider, if other suggestions here do not  help.  I do not have PA, but both my mother and my brother do, so I  am familiar with it and know the symptoms and treatment.  I hope you get help and can feel better!!

Sounds like it could also be B12 deficiency.

    Have you tested it yet?
