I’m on propranolol for my panic attacks but keep jolting awake in my sleep because I can’t breath

not only am i jolting awake, i struggle to fall asleep as i keep forgetting to breath just before i drift off

    Sorry to hear this. I dont know if this is the same but when i try to doze off, its like i get a fright because ive not took a breath or something, its really scary and i get that to where i jolt awake and out of breath. I hope your okay!

    I used to be like this. I would try to sleep and then as soon as I would be falling into sleep I would jolt awake and have a panic attack.

    Eventually I would fall asleep for a an hour then again, wake up panic attack and repeat.

    I'd say stop taking medication unless you absolutely think you need it. I'm very against medication to cure anxiety as it doesn't resolve it, it just puts a plug in it.

    It just went away for me in time. I was scared of it at the start but you have to understand you have conditioned your brain to do this so its just automatic. Even when I lost the fear of it, it still happened and I was like what the hell is going on, you literally cant do anything about it, it just happens.

    Just imagine your brain is broken right now like a broken leg. It will heal in time but don't try to do anything about it, just let it be. In time it just heals itself theres nothing much else to say.

    This exact same thing happens to me, I bolt upright with a massive gasp too. I had a study done for sleep apnea which came back normal. Its an awful symptom of anxiety.

    meditation and progressive muscular relaxation help! I have started with these now...

    do any of you guys get dizzy and really strange sensations in the head when almost at the point of sleep? almost feels like falling then heart speeds up?
