I'm pleased with my results

Thought I would give an update. I had carpal tunnel surgery done on 3/16, today at 2 weeks I had the stitches taken out. So far I'm very pleased. Mine was a local anesthetic in what was called a "mini-open" procedure, not laparoscopic. When I was on the table at one point I felt my forearm relax, a weird feeling. The Dr. said that was when they finally cut through the tendon.

The stiffness/tingling/numbness caused by CT went away immediately after the surgery. How weird to wake up in the morning with no brace...and no CT symptoms at all (!)  I had some pain the first night and took a hydrocodone but the next day and afterwards I took 2 naxproxin sodium which did the trick. I did lots of stretching and flexing of fingers from day one which I believe helped healing quite a bit. At this point my hand feels almost normal, I only get pain when stressing the scar.

As you would expect I feel I should have had this done years ago. Attached is a photo from just before having the stiches removed.

Good to hear. Now it's lots of massage and touching with various textures to get rid of the sensitivity. Cotton wool, rough towel, toothbrush, it works quickly, only took a few days.

i would send a photo of my scar, it is its first birthday tomorrow, but there would be nothing to see!

hope your recovery continues to go well

    Best wishes Elaine

"As you would expect I feel I should have had this done years ago." This amazes me. In my case I got the surgery done 6.5 months after the CTS for the first time began. Therefore the rehab team speculates if I had waited too long. There have been a lot of ups and downs the whole year. And for sure, I do know what makes the downs - it's when the median nerve gets stuck somewhere in the wrist, elbow or elsewhere. When it isn't it feels a lot better.

But today and yesterday, 1 year and two weeks after surgery, I have experienced the two best whole days since the surgery. Hopefully it's a sign! /Ken

I can't believe how incredibly unlucky I have been, 31 days later and I'm still being steri stripped, wound not closed fully and terrible stinging! I have no choice but to be patient, hopefully i will fully recover soon, I'm so envious of all the straightforward procedures I've been informed about...just wished mine could have been one of them.Im listed for surgery on my other hand but I'm very sceptical, worried, and unsure whether to proceed, I'm just worried about long term nerve damage if I decide not to go ahead!
