I'm really worried I may have breast cancer!

Ok so.. I've been suffering from what the doctors thought was health anxiety.. I've had lots and lots of different symptoms that have been happening since January this year.. I had lots of blood tests and a ECG (I was worried about my heart doing strange things). I don't seem to be getting any better - if anything I feel I'm getting worse.. I went to a clinic on Wednesday just for my pill, whilst I was there I just mentioned to the doctor that my left breast was sore - she examined me and said she would like to refer me to a breast clinic as she felt a lump and thickened breast tissue.. As you can imagine my anxiety is now through the roof!! Are all these symptoms I've been experiencing down to breast cancer?? Not health anxiety which my doctor said?? I have chest pains (more on the left side), very strong aches and pains in both my left breast and arm, extreme tiredness, feeling sick, and also swollen lymph nodes.. I'm am so scared right now!! Any help/advice would be brilliant!

Hard not to worry, but you can get lumps which are not cancerous. I won't say the nex t few days of waiting will be easy they will not. But try to be positive, have had lumps many times and all non cancerous If really serious would of had you in straight away. Fingers crossed for you.

    Hello Charlotte,

First to put your mind at rest a litte. A lump and thickened breast tissue MIGHT mean breast cancer, but quite often turn out to be quite harmless. Although some women do get breast pain with breast cancer, there are many who don't. I didn't have any pain with mine, even though it had spread into one of my lymph nodes. The swollen lymph nodes COULD also be a sign of breast cancer, but they could just mean you have some kind of infection and the lymph nodes are mopping it up. That's what they are for.. My suggestion to you is to go to the Breast Cancer Care website.  They have a free helpline where you can chat to a nurse specialising in breast cancer. There are also sections (and downloadable info) on the various benign breast conditions that you might have. I don't know how long you have to wait for your appointment to the breast clinic, but that is the only way you will really know for sure whether you do have BC or not. I'll  keep my fingers crossed for you. xx
