I'm scared that I could have bowel cancer 😞

A little background. I've had intermittent pain in my flank right side back and front since my son was born 9 years ago ( quick delivery) Not long after I had CT scan on liver, kidneys, gallbladder e.t.c showed nothing. Since last Oct I started to get the ache every day which worried me so went back the Dr, urine showed up infection so was put on anti biotic, infection went but ache didn't. Had 5 vials of blood taken, all came back normal and a CT scan on kidneys and bladder were normal. So i was sent to see a consultant physiotherapist as I do suffer with lower back and groin pain too. I do a heavy lifting job and on my feet up to 8 hours a day so they think its all just muscular pain. But I'm worrying myself sick that they've missed something! My bowel movements haven't changed and I'm not in pain of a night lying down in bed but I'm convincing myself I have cancer! I also suffer from depression and health anxiety so wondering if I'm making the pain worse. Please can someone help me. Thank you xxxxx

    Pauline,

I know it's difficult but you need to try to calm down, stress itself can cause issues like producing more stomach acid and that can also irritate your bowels. If worring helped our situations even a little, we would all be cured.

Try not to self diagnose and do what you can do on your part is to find some distractions like mild exercise such as a brisk walk, 3 to 4 times a week, read a good book, pray, drink a mild herbal tea, take a bath, listen to calming music ect..

Eventually you will get the medical answer you were looking for and you can go from there. If it turns out to be something small and corrective, you are going to kick yourself in the pants for wasting so much energy. Save the energy incase you do need it.

Thank you! Yes, I get very stressed and worried and let my mind go into overdrive. I think I do actually make the pain worse with stressing if that's possible? I'm determined to start eating more healthily from this week and do more walking. I actually use to do loads and I love reading just trying to get quiet time with 3 kids though lol. Thanks very much for your reply 😊

I had bleeding from the back and had also backache. They did a bowel examination, and said that I probably have cancer, had a MRI and discovered 2 tumours ,they could not operate as one was near the wall,so had chemo and radio and 5 months later a big operation. Yes I ended up with a stoma and was terrified, but you know it is so easy and don't have the worry. I am now in remission and prospects are very good. That's why I said it doesn't look if you have those symptons, have a test but I am sure you will be fine, hope this will help.

Hi, I know it's easy to say, but do try not to worry, worry makes things worse, your body tenses and the pain can seem so much worse. I see you have had a ct scan and everything was OK, has your doctor suggested any other tests or is he happy that everything is ok. If so you must try and believe your doctor, I know they do get things wrong sometimes, try to relax have fun with your family and try not to stress. Cally

Yeah, I do tend to hold myself stiff at times and I do think that makes it worse. My Dr is quite happy with muscular pain especially because I've had it for so long with no other symptoms.

Pauline what I forgot to tell you I had also depression ,but I insisted to get something they put me on a low dose of sertraline,it will take 6 weeks before it works, but it's brilliant I woke up one day and  I felt better and am absolutely fine and I could face that huge operation. Do not go on with depression it's the worst thing, sort that out and you probably find that the symptons will disappear.

I've tried anti depressants several times and I'm highly sensitive to them. I've had depression and anxiety for years, just coped with it myself and pushed myself through it. X
