I'm SCHEDULED!!!!

I'm so excited....pretty crazy right? My surgery is scheduled for April 5th....went to a new doctor who I really like a lot! I have pelvis damage that he needs to repair...

Has anyone had pelvis damage? Is the recovery harder?

Thanks as always for the continued support!

Congrats! I would say that recovery depends on what the pelvis damage is and what surgical procedure has to be done. The pelvis is a big area. Can you be more specific about the extent of the damage and the name of the surgery?

Lizard, I am still confused. So you are scheduled for a Total Hip Replacement, but it will be different from the usual THR due to having to build up the bone around the place where the cup will be placed and/or the femur?

Not sure what they use as I was in total awe of this doc who actually spoke with me, drew pics and treated me like a person! I'll fined out and let you all know!!

That would be great! It is often hard to process what the doctors say, especially when it is about upcoming surgery. I have been preparing a list of questions for the next time I see my orthopedic surgeon when we talk about scheduling my operation.

Don.t have an pelvic damage, but just wanted to touch base with you, as I am due for my op on April 4, just one day before you.

Good luck, I am sure all will be well.  Very often it is the waiting that is worse than the op itself....

With  my first THR I was told I may need a bone graft to my pelvis, and told they would take bone from elsewhere in my pelvis.

Also pointed out that where they take the bone from could very very sore for a while.

Husband and I have since had a diasgreement he said they told him they took bone, and I had no pain as the Dr described, so I assume they didn't have to take bone.

Having read this forum, bone grafts have to be non-weight bearing for some weeks after surgery, that also didn't apply to me.

I can understand how excited you are to have repair done to you pelvis and hip, its wonderful after the getting over the surgery time.

Time to relax now and just go with the flow, stay as fit and healthy as you can, if you can't walk, go swimming (treading water), I do and did up to the day before surgery both times, and got back in the pool at about 4 weeks post surgery, with GP's permission.

Physio tells me she is going to recommend my regiem for more of her hip patients, she is thrilled at just how strong and fit I am even with problems, a few muscles need tweaking, but that is all.

Hi, don't know if this is the same but I had my hip socket built up with a bone graft using doner bone. My consultant is lovely and drew me pictures and took time to explain everything. It really makes a difference!
