I'm trying to get information on claiming PIP, does anybody have anything to share please?

I started getting pain in my legs and hips last year in January, and after numerous doctors visits, physiotherapy sessions and every attempt to find out why my walking was rapidly becoming more difficult, I was finally seen by a muscular skeletal specialist in September. I had a MRI hip scan which revealed bilateral chronic avascular necrosis of the femoral head and extensive bone marrow oedema.
I was referred to an orthopaedic surgeon who schedule the first hip replacement in December. Unfortunately, I failed the pre-op and due to the coronavirus epidemic, I'm still awaiting my first replacement. I am 48 years old and have a full-time job receiving a salary. I'm not able to walk very far any more and cannot get to the point where I used to get public transport to and back from work. I have had to resort to taking a taxi both ways which is gobbling up 25% of my salary. When I called the Jobcentre Plus, they advised me to claim Universal Credit which I duly did, but my claim was denied.
Is there anybody that could please share any information with me on how to go about making a benefit claim? I may try getting in touch with the Citizens Advice Bureau to discuss my situation with them, but welcome any feedback you can share.
I've now had a chance to view the Citizens Advise Bureau website and it has been extremely helpful. I'll update this post once I have any more information to share.

I had my first replacement 6 years ago and I have been in constant pain and registered disabled but as I worked full time I never claimed benefits. I applied for a blue badge 4 years ago and have managed with just that. I was happy to be able to get to places by car and was so grateful to be able to park closer I never felt the need to claim benefits.
I had my 2nd hip revision for infection on 24th February and my leg was fractured.
I have been signed off work for at least 3 months but in reality it will probably be 5 and after 3 months my income stops.
I called the hot line and they sent me the form which i finally filled in the 40 pages I dont know if I will get anything and what ever I do I will be eternally grateful. when I return to work I will stop the payment.
it took about 4 hours to complete and I sent it in with a huge amount of supporting paperwork.
I dont think they pay for taxis and unless you are on higher rate mobility I don't think the basic rate will cover a daily taxi ride.
have you tried access to work grant It is hugely easier to get help from them.

Thanks Samantha. I've been given a blue badge too and am also really happy to be able to park closer to where I need to go. This is most helpful as I really battle to walk and have to use crutches to get around. I'll hold off claiming the benefit until I have both hips replaced, and need it to help pay towards my rent.

Hi Abaaba, first all pip ( personal independend
payment ) is not easy to claim, this is due to the amount of questions they ask you.
firstly have you got the relevant forms to fill in I.e a new claimant.
secondly do not attempt to try and fill in the form yourself.
you have to score 8 points for basic pip and 12 points or more for the standard pip.
Be aware of what your answers are going to be, get a couple of sheets of paper and ask a friend or family member to help you read the questions out and then write your answers, keep in mind you have to answer these on your worse day e.g how long does it take to wash and dry yourself on your worse day.
if your in any doubt contact D.R.A.S ( disability rights advocate services ) this was originally disability living or your local citizens advice.
if possible take some photo copy of your blank forms before filling them in and also take a photo copy of when you have filled it for future reference.
if you have to go for a face to face assessment please make sure you don't go alone and dont make eye contacts.
hope this helps you in anyway
y that it can, it doesn't matter if you or partner is working or what savings you have, its convincing the assessors that you are a genuine case and you
are entitled to some help of mobility

I filled in the form myself and if you tell the truth you will score the right score for you , for the right amount of benefit.
This is a benefit to help the in need manage their symptoms
If you don't make eye contact it implies you are lying in my humble opinion.
They are also not doing face to face assessments at the moment.
