I'm using Zopiclone to treat my anxiety for yrs. Need help to stop

Hi.
First time posting, I have been using Zopiclone for over 10 years. It originally did help for sleep, I realised quickly however, that it gave me a bit of a buzz & made me calm & relaxed so I started using it for anxiety instead. The addiction has crept up on me, going from a few tablets a day & just keeping them in my handbag or pocket to function, to now Really needing them to even get out the door. I have been ordering them online & I've had fakes. it's costing me a fortune & it's ruining mine & my partners life. If anyone has been through this & can help with suggestions/tips/websites etc.. I'd be very grateful.

Zoplicone is a Z drug that acts in a similar way to benzodiazepines. I have been off benzodiazepines for nearly 8 years and worked as a moderator of a forum called TRAP which has since closed down. The best forum to replace it is Benzo Buddies which will also help you with the Zopiclone. Im not too sure about various Facebook Pages - there are only two or three that i would recommend mainly because people feel free to give advice while they are still tapering and really have no idea what they are doing - it can be a very scary read!
It is very important that you do take control of this situation because it will ruin your life in every way. The Ashton Manual written by Professor Heather Ashton is a free download which has guided countless people off these horrible drugs. I'm not on Patient much because I work - today is my day off. Hope that helps you a bit.

Yes it is crucial not to taper off too quickly as this is potentially dangerous.
The Ashton manual is usually the bible of tapering off but some say it is too fast. Drs are usually not good at advising on tapering. It is a very bad idea to buy online as you have found out. It is dangerous because you have no means of knowing that these drugs actually contain.
I feel it best to discuss all this with your dr.

How are you doing? Did you get help? As you take so often mabye you must shift to a benzo with longer halflife during withdrawal. I take Zop to sleep and I know how they make you feel when awake.

I just want to add that you must be very careful what you think Zopiclone is doing for you. I have been on it a year and a half and after 4 months started having lightheaded feeling. After many tests , I can only think now that Zopiclone is the cause. Be aware that Zopicline will cause a calming effect as you take it for a few hours but as it wears off it has the opposite effect, causing anxiety. I have been weaning off for 8 weeks now and during that phase you will definatly feel anxiety which is amplified even more when you go to bed and can't fall asleep. Just remember you must give your body time to adjust to the reduced dose. I'm at the point where i'm on 0 dose for 5 days now and holding out, even though I have had some nights lying in bed awake. Good news is that after 5 days my body seems to be re adjusting. Only time will tell. Make sure if you taper , go slow, and maintain reduced dose for 2 weeks before reducing again.
