I’m worried that my constant gassiness could be IBS

Hey everyone,

For a very long time I have had pretty bad gassy spells that would last for days. I don't think it's lactose intolerance because it never happens after I consume dairy and it tends to occur in the evenings. Last year I also used to get a short bout diarrhea every month.

I have been reading about IBS for a year now and have sometimes worried that I could have it. Even if my problems are mainly to do with gassiness I still worry that it could be IBS.

hello, maria! does your stomach also rumble because of gas? if so, i think we have the same issue. my stomach has been rumbling for weeks now (not daily tho) and can feel lots of gas in my abdomen. my doctor told me it could be lactose intolerance so I'm staying off from lactose now to see if it will improve. do you have any other symptoms?

hi Maria, you could have ibs, if you look in the nhs website there will be a list of ibs symptoms because ibs is more than gasiness. i know you said you had no issues with lactose but have you got issues with other foods including gluten? try tracking and writing down what you're eating it might help. you could ask your doctor to see a dietitian, this might help you. good luck.

I don't think my gassiness is triggered by any specific types of food, especially as it tends to occur almost exclusively in the evenings. Though I should start keeping track of foods anyway. :p

I did notice recently that these gassy episodes tend to occur a week before my period starts which led me to believe that it might be something hormone related.

However, my period did just end and these huge cramps started to take over my lower abdomen in which a bit of gassiness was involved which led me to start worrying about IBS again. Hence this post! XD
