I'm young and have had a weird form of tinnitus for years, please help

Hi, i'm currently 24 and have had tinnitus since i was 18. It first started out has an extremely loud and intense ringing in my ears that lasts for a couple of seconds and then goes away, it's not painful, but it's very strong, kind of like the sound effects in movies when a bomb goes off but a lot worse. They happen at random times, not triggered by sound or seemingly anything else.

Eventually after a few months of this happening i developed full time tinnitus, but i still get the same moments when it's much louder for a few seconds and then goes back to normal. I have never seen a doctor for it but i did do a hearing test last year for work and it was normal. Does anybody have anything similar or know why this could happen?

At this point i can manage it ok but i'm scared as to what the cause could be since i barely ever expose my ears to loud noises and am still young.

I'm in a similar situation at the moment. I started experiencing sudden loud tinnitus in my left ear after years of almost silent (but still noticeable) tinnitus in both ears. I'm not sure exactly what caused it, but I just had a sudden loud ringing sound in my left ear one day last week and it just never went away this time. I do normally experience spikes in tinnitus like you described, but this one time it just didn't return to normal in my left ear. I also don't listen to any loud noises or anything, this was kind of out of nowhere. I will let you know if I find anything out. Hopefully you figure something out soon.
