Hi all
Thought i'd give some feedback.
I made it through with entonox... I really wanted to ask for a badge or certificate or something
The prep was okish waited for the action to begin at about 2000, the many trips to the toilet were fine until the last trip which had lots of cramping, I was also sick. If you get nauseous easily then make sure you have a bin/container/carrier bag (without holes) in the toilet to help.
Despite having a good sleep I woke up feeling odd and lethargic, maybe nerves, dehydration, not sure.
I arrived at the hospital and had the usual introductions pre observations etc. I met the consultant before had who explained the procedure and I signed the consent.
I opted for entonox (gas and air) and was advised it would be uncomfortable depending on how my bowel was lying, however if very painful I could have some sedation.
I first lay on my left with the entonox in hand, could view the screen easily but found it better to not watch at first.
The procedure itself was uncomfortable probably 60%, and I used the entonox for this time. I shouted in pain for part of it when on my back, this was more due to the twisting around the corners of the colon, the consultant warned me each time and told me to take deep breaths on the entonox. I moved into various positions left side, on back and right side. For me the side position was more comfortable, when lying on back it made it uncomfortable.
The discomfort is like very very bad wind, and actually it was difficult as I wanted to pass wind, but didn't feel I could, but kept trying anyway and was encouraged to do so. Also when I was on my back it was deep pushing was was very uncomfortable.
Once the deep pushing was over, it was fine and I felt a distinct change and asked whether the probe was still in and it was. I was able to watch the screen and didn't use the entonox after that. The consultant explained what I could see which was nice.
There was a point when the camera was turned inside, that was a odd sensation but not painful. They also took random biopsies which again were painless.
It was then over, I had tea and a sandwich and have eaten lots since being home. I am tired, but that maybe just as I was anxious and have used up a lot of energy.
My test was fine, thankfully. I am pleased I although I hope I won't need one again, would definitley have one and with entonox again.
I am pleased I went as was going to cancel last week. It was definitley not as bad as having my wisdom tooth out under local.
I hope my summary has helped, if you are considering not going, please do go. Its your health, and its approx 30 minutes.
