I need a THR, but I don't know what to expect.

I am 59 years old & I have had arthritis since childhood. I have had right hip pain for about 6 months & it is getting worse daily. I have a high pain tolerence, but this hurts. My Ortho ordered a bone scan which showed arthritis through-out my body. My xrays show my hip has "flat lined". My Doctor has reccomended a hip replacement. I need to know how long it takes for recovery & is it worth it?

Ohh Chris I doo understand, isn't it horrible that we have to get to this stage of breakdown.

My right hip, and then later my left hip used to do what i described to the Dr as a slip and slide, the slip wasn't painful, but the stop was nuts I used to get lightheaded from the pain.

Its was like standing on a banana skin, and you don't know when the next slip is coming.

Pain afterwards nothing as bad, and like I said previous they do help you with painkillers.

Best regards for Xmas, and a improving hippie new year

The quicker you get it fixed, the quicker you will enjoy your life to the full again. If you don't have the operation the slide downhill is so painful and life limiting, it is worth considering that it will just get ( a lot) worse. It will not get better. If you have the operation now or soon, you will be fine for the summer.

I am forty and have two young children, and a very busy household and I have managed just fine. It is only a few weeks you are completely out of action for, after that you will feel much happier to join in with life again. I am on day 20 and feeling very positive about my recovery.
