I need an answer

Hello all,

I have been experiencing a health crisis for almost two years now with no answers. It has taken everything away from me...

I have been to so many hospitals, doctors, and specialists and not one can figure out what is going on.

My symptoms include...

1. Joint/muscle pain

2. Nausea/vomiting

3. Dizziness

4. Fatigue

5. Lightheaded

6. Loss of appetite

7. Diharea

8. Heart palpitations

9. Low resting heart rate (can get down to 48).....

10. Chest pain

11. Head pain/pressure

12. Weird colored bruises

I am 22 and I am scared of dying constantly because that is what it feels like. I can’t go out and do anything because I don’t have the energy to do so. Everything good in my life and been ruined by this sudden crisis.

I have been doing g my own research and was wondering if this could be related to my hormones?? I notice that around the time of my period and even after it’s the worst. Not saying it doesn’t occur any other time, but it’s really bad at this time.

I had been worried about having many conditions, but recently it’s been the fear of Addison’s.

I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who has something similar and hormones were to blame...

Please help...

I went into partial ovarian deficiency (early menopause) in my 20s but it wasn't diagnosed for decades because I was still having periods. This could explain some of your symptoms - joint pains, palpitations, fatigue, head pain/migraine. Migraine could explain dizziness and stomach problems.  My migraine was 'cured' by going on HRT. I found out I was sensitive to progesterone (in a bad way!), and low on estrogen & testosterone.

I've no idea what the bruising could be.  Have you seen a rheumatologist who understands connective tissue disorders? I have some symptoms that are connective tissue disorder-related, though not classically EDS. Also sounds like you may have some autonomic disturbances going on, though possibly not extreme enough to be definitively classed as POTS.

The most effective treatment I've received has been HRT and then a hysterectomy, though it's not solved all of my health problems.

If you're in the UK, try and get a GP referral to the PMT/Menopause clinic at Chelsea & Westminster in London, they're really knowledgeable, and very sympathetic.

Good luck with your search. After 20 years I'm still trying to get get to the bottom of my weird array of symptoms, it took a while to get my head around it all, but I no longer panic when a new one appears!

That is so interesting to hear!

I’ve had so many tests done at some many different places that I’m not sure what they even all looked at at this point.

The thing that worries me the most is my heart rate, mostly being low. That causes me to feel weird, disconnected, and like I’m dying...

Hi Alex, I'm sorry you are having such problems.   My ex husband had Addision's disease, so i'm well aware of all those horrid symptoms.   But from your readings I'm sure you have seen, that Addison's disease is nearly impossible to diagnose until the person reaches something called Addision's crisis.  Weight loss was a major symptom for my husband.  That, and the skin discoloration.  He looked like he had an overly aggressive suntan, but certainly not a healthy one. It looked like he had dirt covering his body.  So those would be specific things to look for with the case of Addison's disease.

My suggestion is you get to the very best endrocrinologist you can possibly find.  Let them do a complete work up, including your sex steroids. Hopefully someone can find the answers you need.

    Good Luck!

I am so sorry to hear that...

The hard part about this situation is that no one knows what it is so I have look on the internet for possibilities which led me to Addison’s. I have tan skin but I always have my whole life (I’m Italian) and I don’t get hungry really but I don’t think I’m losing weight.

I’m just scared because I don’t want to go into a sudden Addison’s crisis and not come out of it alive. I am trying to be so proactive about my health because I am 22 and I am so scared and alone in this. I just don’t know what to do anymore.

I am getting another blood test done by my Primary physician but it has to be 21 days after the start of your last menstural cycle due to fluctuating hormones which is what they are going to be testing! But if that comes back negative then the next step will be to see an endocrinologist!

If you haven't been checked for these, it might be a good idea:

    Reactivated EBV

    Lyme Disease

    Heavy metal poisoning

    Mold

When you started getting these symptoms what was going on in your life? Did you move? Have lots of stress suddenly?
