I need gastritis information!!

I have researched all over the web. I had gastritis for 24 hours. I went to my doctor who said, " take Zantac for 2 weeks. That's it. I did drink wine the next day, I had peaches and heavy cream as well. Nothing happened to me.

After researchering, I am more confused.

Will I have this for the rest of my life? Can it flare up then go away untreated? Should I look into it further? After all, my doctor only felt around my abdomen area and listened to my heart and lungs. Was this an appropriate test to diagnose garitis? Has anyone had it happen once and never again? Do I really need to change my diet full force because of one incident??

I would appreciate any help!!!

Thanks

Gastritis just means that you have inflammation of the stomach lining. If you had read the data sheet with the Zantac you would see that you should NOT drink alcohol while taking it. You should appreciate that your stomach needs to heal so should look after yourself. We should all look after our diets. We can stray occasionally on special occasions, but long term it is not worth anyone's while abusing their body.

I didn't take the Zantac. I drink once a week. I am pretty healthy as well. My question is: Can one get gastritis once or does this mean I have it for life?

it is like getting a cut in your finger. It should heal, but it can happen again. It really depends what caused it.

Hi Crystal, I'm no expert, but I wouldn't think a doctor would be able to tell you that you had Gastritis from feeling your stomach. You would tell this from an endoscopy ( a small camera in your stomach, which can also see into the small bowel) I've had it done because of daily indigestion/ heartburn and acid reflux.

It flares up regularly, you really have to change your whole diet to a mostly Alkaline based diet, watch acidic things like cigarettes, Alcohol and junk foods. It may be that you had ate some acidic foods and your body was struggling a bit, wouldn't be too concerned unless you start to struggle on a daily basis like I did. Everything I put in my stomach went for me. Doc prescribed Proton pump inhibitors, I came off them because of the side effects, not on anything now, still suffering with it, haven't changed my diet, that's probably why I'm still in pain. If left untreated it can lead to ulcers, in some cases stomach cancer, but that's probably the worst scenario. I've had Gastritis for years, (inflammation in stomach and small bowel) I'm just on the verge of doing something about it as I don't want it to turn into anything nasty.

      Thank you, Gillian!

Mm! Now, I am a bit perplexed. I will dig deeper. I have drank wine, chocolate ice cream and half an avacado oil grilled cheese- no pain in my belly.

As for you, have you tried Essentcia water? It's very high in alkaline, but be careful, one can overdose on the alkaline.

      Best of luck to you!

      Thanks for your help!
