Someone very dear to me has opened up about something deep that troubles him, and he fears he may be schiz. He says, ever since he can remember (being the age of 4/5) he has always had a paranoia that people can hear his thoughts, constantly. he says it doesnt have a voice but like a presence that can hear all his thoughts, of no specfic nature, and it never leaves and he gets no relief. it makes him feel paranoid, and says he can even think competely different things whilse speaking simutaniously to fight with this feeling of his own thoughts being heard.Though he knows and understands that people hearing his thoughts is completely impossible and irrational. He also said recently that he feels lost and doesnt understand anything anymore. He has low self esteem and doesnt like himself how he should and deserves, and says he often has dark thoughts about his own life and its worth. I love this person, and i want to make him feel better, and see how wonderful he really is! and to feel safe in his own mind and body. Please, if anyone has any advice on this!!!! PLEASE HELP!!

Sorry to hear about your friend, it must be very worrying for you. First of all it should be acknowledged that he is lucky to have you as a friend. Many people walk away when the topic of mental illness is raised. He obviously trusts you to have been able to confide in you, so I am thinking he values your opinion. Have you asked him to make an appointment with his GP? You could help him write a list of questions to ask him/her. If he isn't ready to speak to his GP yet, you could advise him to contact the Samaritans or other support group.
I don't really know what else to say except that he really does need to see somebody sooner rather than later.
