I need reassurance.... Really struggling (Sertraline)

Hi everyone. My name is Abby. I’m 28 years old. I’m pregnant with my second child. With my first I experienced hyperemesis (constant throwing up and in the hospital multiple times). Which left me with PTSD. Since having my first child, when I got the flu, it sent me over the edge taking me back to that pregnancy. It took me 4 years to attempt to get pregnant again. I’ve been in and out of hospital. The sickness is finally gone, but my anxiety is through the roof! Like I can barely function. I was on Zoloft last time and it worked wonders! Wishing I never would have went off. So for 4 1/2 weeks I was on 75mg and seeing some relief and better days then had two days where I felt more anxious and kind of freaked out so my dr upped my dose to 100mg. Omg.... I’ve been on the 100mg for 6 days and it’s been the worst 6 days ever! Is this normal?! Anxiety is almost unbearable and constant, nauseas, can hardly eat. It’s like I’m back at square one!!! So total I’ve been on it for 5 1/2 weeks at this point. But only 6 days at 100mg. When will I see relief?!?!?!! I’ve lost 20lbs and I’m 12 weeks pregnant. I’m desperate. I want my life back!

Same happened to me. I was on Zoloft before and it worked wonders. I should have never gotten off but we all

Make mistakes. The increased anxiety and very common. I would def not up for dose again. Stick to the 100 mg for at least 6-8 weeks. It needs time to adjust to your body. The waiting game is so hard and we want to feel better in a day but unfortunately with this medication it takes a while for it to fully kick in. If you have anything to help with the anxiety in the mean time ( like Xanax or Ativan) please use that. It will help take the edge off.

Thank you for replying. I do have to take the Xanax as needed. The drs are aware since I’m pregnant. But I literally can’t function if I don’t. To them and me, the benefits out weigh the risks since I don’t take it every day. Such a roller coaster! I’m so mad I allowed my dr to up my dose. But since I’m already a week in on it, I’m most definitely not going back down at this point. Today was awful. I just cried and felt anxious ALL DAY LONG. Finally, have some relief at the moment.  How long have you been on it ?

Well in my case my doc upped me from 50 to 100 in a week. I did 100 mg for 2 weeks and I felt awful so I decreased back to 50 in my own and been on 50 for 3 weeks now. So I’ve been on Zoloft total for 6 weeks. ( 7 weeks on Friday) I couldn’t get out of bed for days, weeks actually. I didn’t eat , was shaking, bad thoughts and just felt hopeless. I finally started to get some relief the last few days. I wouldn’t say I’m 100% at all. Maybe about 65/70% better? I can function, do things around the house, go to work but I still get anxious though out the day especially in the morning / day time. For some reason I am a lot better at night. My appetite comes back and I am much calmer. Please stick to it. It will get better!

Did you have bad side effects when you dropped your dose back down? I was contemplating going back down to 75mg, but afraid of side effects. Not sure why..... I’m going through hell right now with side effects from increasing so I can’t imagine it would make much of a difference!

No I did not get any side effects from going back down to 50 and I don’t think you would get any from going down to 75. It’s not much of a decrease and you’ve only been on 100 for 6 days , it’s not like you’ve been on for a month. If you decide to do go down do it soon. Right, the side effects wouldn’t be any worse than what you’re experiencing now!

Did you feel relief the day you started taking 50mg again? Or still super anxious.? I know this 100mg is making sooo anxious because after I take it within an hour or two I’m a wreck!

I suffer from sever anxiety to begin with so when I started the meds I had anxiety but I think once I cut back down to 50 I did notice a decrease in the anxiety. I had to take a Xanax almost everyday ( even now once in a while ) to help relive the anxiety because it seems to be the worst in the morning.

Yes I am but I am working very part time and I make my own schedule. Hopefully I’ll be able to work more in the next few weeks

Mine is severe too. Can barely leave the house. Constant anxiety. Mornings are awful. Just really trying to decide if I should drop back down to 75mg where I was feeling some relief after 4 1/2 weeks. I wish I would have just stuck it out !

I know it’s so frustrating but you’ve only been on the 100 for 7 days. You’re definitely going to get those side effects again because you upped your dose. I hate the constant anxiety and thoughts that run in our mind. It’s awful. Do you have any Xanax or ativian to help until the Zoloft kicks in?

I know! Think it’ll be a 6-8 weeks before seeing a difference? Or since I was already on 75mg for 4 1/2 weeks that it might be sooner? I do have Xanax. But I’m pregnant.

That’s right I asked you before. ( I feel like the Zoloft makes me forget things lol) I would say at least 3 weeks till you start to see some change. Maybe just stick to it . I can’t imagine having the anxiety while being pregnant. I have a 4 year old and I was planning on trying for a 2nd but got hit with this awful anxiety!!

Yes! It’s very hard! But I’m praying I come out on the other side soon. Do you have good days and bad days? And is that part of it? I upped it because I just thought that dose wasn’t gonna Work after I had a couple more anxious days!

Yes I do have good and bad days. Lately more good days so I think it’s working. I still have that “scared feeling” like something bad is going to happen to me but it doesn’t consume me like it did a few weeks ago. You’ll get there also and everything will work out!
