I need some advice from citalopram users out there please

For many years I took an anti-depressant called motival which controlled my anxiety induced IBS type sympoms. Earlier this year the manufacturers ceased production without much notice and for a while I tried to survive but eventually had to give in and return to my GP.

I have now been on citalopram for 4 weeks and the dose has been increased from 10-20-30

As soon as I went on the drug I experienced indigestion, stomach ache and nausia to name a few. I expected this to disappear after a couple of weeks but it hasn't. I am now in a dilemma in that I don't know if these are withdrawal symptoms from the original drug (taken for 20 years), a continuing side effect of citalopram or I have developed a separate medical problem.

I really feel miserable. so any morale boosting feedback will be most appreciated

Regards, John

Hi John, I'm only replying to this because nobody else has - I am neither a doctor nor an expert! Sounds like it's a combination of both withdrawal and adjusting to the new tablets. 20 years is a long time and surely it will take your body a while to adjust. Sorry I can't be of more help! Try ringing a mental health support line or going back to your GP if you are worried. After all, any anxiety you are feeling won't be helping your physical symptoms. Mind and body are one in the same. Sorry if I've been patronising or anything!

    Good luck.
