Hi all, right I've had an under active thyroid for years now and been on levo, I had a scan 6 months ago which noted a nodule so had a biopsy in December was told after that it was thy3a, then when I saw consultant she said I had hashis and she would see me in July,I've since had a second biopsy two weeks ago, I've been told that it's not cancer though I have hurthle cells which were there at first biopsy but not told about, now they are wanting me to have a total thyroidectomy im a little confused to say they least, I don't think they are telling me everything and I'm not happy about the situation, why would consultant say I was OK I feel fine by the way, should I go to another hospital for a second opinion, any advice is much appreciated tia x

My name is Shelly and I am a nurse in the USA. I have Hashi's also and 3 nodules.
Here is what I recommend, see another doctor an Endocrine Surgeon or another Endocrinologist. Hurthie Cells are a type of thyroid cancer cells. However people in the medical world can make mistakes since maybe they mixed up a file, or missed it on the first biopsy, ask for the report and go over it carefully.
Get a copy of your entire file and if you need to pay to see a private MD. I would even do a third biopsy to make sure. It is hard to trust them after this conflicting information.
You only get 1 thyroid and losing it to a medical error would be horrible. I would make sure and get another opinion.
Please keep me updated on how you do,
Shelly

I would get my fle and course these biopsy reports both of them. Then see another doctor away from this hospital. You need new eyes on this. So what you needo do and verify everything they say. Look at the reports carefully for corect name and birth date and compare reports.
Do not make any surgery plans until you check this out. This is what I would do.
Keep me updated and stay strong.
