i now possibly have a mumps diagnosis?

Hello everyone. I know that with mono, there are risks to obtain other viruses/illnesses. When I had a follow-up appointment today as requested by a different doctor at the same office before going back to work. He felt my neck and then decided to take blood to see if i had mumps as well? I live in Pennsylvania, USA, where mumps is not common at all and I was vaccinated appropriately in 2001 (at age 1) and 2004 (at age 4). I understand that of course it is a possibility to be ill with something you have been vaccinated for but i was just not expecting that as i don't have any of the other symptoms of mumps - haven't had a fever or temperature or any swelling besides the swollen glands on my neck. I know i can trust the doctors opinion to get tested but now since mumps is more contagious than mono, i cant return to work quite yet. I'm curious to know if anyone here has heard of acquiring mumps in this state. Thanks.

    Hello Sarah,

I'm afraid I don't know much about the link between mono and mumps and if the rates of mumps in different states (I'm from the UK!), but I'm hoping that the test from the doctor has just been a precaution and it can bring some good and reassuring news for you which settles you down a lot.

Just a word of encouragement that if you are still going through symptoms or a tough time with mono, it does get better Sarah - such an awful and frustrating virus, it can take a little time for full recovery, but truly it does come with time and God's help of course.

Let us know how you get on with your test results and hoping for good news for you.

    Craig
