Hi all I am 25 and this will be my third large painful abscess to appear in my armpit in the space of a year almost to the date. my first two were under my left arm and now I have one developing under my right. The last two were dealt with in hospital using surgery. Which saw me out of work for 2/3 weeks. They took swabs but I've never had results. My dr played it down and said it's just how it is they may reoccur so I wasn't bothered till tonight when I began researching it sounds as though there are far more worse of than me so I can't moan to much I just think it's a disgrace a vast majority have to self diagnose. I will be doing my doctors job for him first thing in the morning. Also my mum co owns a herbal remedy shop that does allergy testing so I will trying everything I can and seek her advice which I will keep posting thanks for all the info everyone

Hey dude. If it is HS, check with a doctor to verify diagnosis.

Try Turmeric which you can buy in Holland & Barrett. I was trying to find out what to do when I was diagnosed with HS. Tried anti biotics but that didn't help. In the end tried Turmeric, which is a spice related to ginger and used in Indian and South Eastern Asian regions. The sores/lumps/abscesses in my armpits went away and now I take the turmeric everyday. They haven't come back and I hope it stays that way.

I was diagnosed with HS when they cut a lump out and analysed it.

Hi Thomas.  Sorry to hear of your suffering in the arm pits,  I hope the turmeric works for you. When your mum does the allergy testing, can you ask her about allergies to nightshade vegetables eg tomatoes, potatoes, peppers etc. As someone with hs, somewhere (could've been this forum) said they had cut out these vegetables and they had been boil/abscess free ever since. I've tried similar, not cutting out all nightshades, but most,  and have had a definite decrease. But I have also lost weight and stopped drinking alcohol, so I'm unsure which it is.

hello i have hs i found out after i went to the hospital to get my lumps drained at first i thought it was folliculitis but the doc said hs. before then it has taken 4 years hair loss blood puss and pain for me to find out i tried the paleo diet i started with no dairy bumps still were there and hurt i tried no gluten same thing but my open sores did go away? no real major pain but i still itched like crazy and bumps would sometimes hurt. the last few days i bumped into this post and i have to say i am relieved but sad nightshades are my problem. the other day i ate some spicy skins and ithched like crazy later sores and scabs on my scalp i dont know what to do and avoiding the night shades is so hard. is there a list of store bought manufature foods that are safe any help would be great.

Hi Anthony.  I  I too suspect  nightshades are the problem. The problem is that these are the vegetables I eat and enjoy the most. I've stopped eating potatoes and tomatoes altogether. I do still eat peppers (capsicums) and I just cannot resist spicy food so cutting out chillies are a problem. So I now make my own spicy recipes adding chilli sparingly and only treat myself a few times a week.  I avoid gluten rich starchy foods like breads and cakes. I also drink water instead of tea or coffee which needs milk.   It has helped a lot. The odd one or two, but not as painful or as huge and altogether a lot less debilitating. I wish someone somewhere would do some research on it.
