I skipped the inactive pills and I am still on period, worried!

So I have been on Tri-Sprintec for two months and I am on week 2 of my second pack of pills. I decided to skip the inactive pills on the first pack and went straight ahead to my new pack. My period was scheduled to come August 10th and I was told that by skipping these pills, my period did not come. 

However, a few days into my second pack(Around August 16th) my period shows up, of course I panicked and I called the nearest clinic. I was told that my body likes to have a period every month and this is breakthrough bleeding. 

So now I am worried because it just seems to be getter heavier and usually by now my period would be going away. I’m not sure if I should go back and take the white pills or just continue taking the active pills(as I’ve been doing?) 

Thanks so much! I am so worried and anxious.
