I sometimes have anxiety attacks while watching disaster movies. Am I crazy?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I find that sometimes if I am watching a disaster movie such as 2012, the knowing San Andreas etc. I get extremely uncomfortable and anxious and start freaking out. In my mind I feel like its really going to happen and I am going to lose my family. Am I going crazy? And please don't say “just don't watch them" because I've been told that by a psychiatrist before and sent home.

It's just your emotions getting the best of you.

It's like watching a sad part in a movie and tear up, it's all emotions.

I find that I have gotten more sensitive when watching movies. I start getting a little teary eyed when watching a certain scene in a movie.

You love your family so much that watching things that couple possibly hurt them makes you uneasy.

All you can do is tell yourself that it's just a movie, and yes it CAN happen, but on the bright side, you'll be with your family and all die together.

I think that would be the best thing in this world to happen to us, is we die with the ones we love the most...all at the same time...hugging each other.

I think there's something very satisfying and non scary about that.

Anyway...idk if this even helped you or not, lol...but you'll be ok.

Thank you. That does help. It has gotten a lot worse since my mom passed away in 2014. I try to talk my self through it and it helps sometimes.

Christina, you are not going mad, honest.

I watched a film and passed out.

I saw another film, I was so scared that I couldn't sleep 💤 alone.

    Are you on medication? X

Hi. Thank you for replying. I am on ativan for seizures and I take a half of one if I have a bad panic attack but otherwise I am not. It has gotten a lot worse since my mom passed in 2014. My fiance tries to help calm me down and most of the time him just being there helps me get through it. I've been able to get through more movies with him either on the phone or sitting with Mr.

I avoid stuff like that now, as it can be a trigger... give me a PG any day 😊
