It did noes not work for all and certainly didn't for me.

My doctor works with a lot of sports people why fly to other side of the world. They have asked for it to get back into rhythm and it seldom does.

I agree with derek. Melatonin is a natural hormone in the brain. As we age this hormone becomes more & more deficient. Hence as to why the elderly have more difficulty sleeping. You dont mention your age but having said all of that, there is no harm in giving it a go. Certainly better than taking sleeping tablets where the harm factor is much higher. Just a tip though. If you do decide to try them, get the doctor prescribed ones, not the natural type you can get in a health shop. Prescription ones are much stronger but dont expect to much from them either way. Good luck.

Melatonin is prescribed in order to re-set the circadian rhythms in your brain. It is a naturally occurring chemical which is meant to let your brain tell the rest of your body when to sleep and when to wake. It is present in cow's milk which is why often the doctor will tell you to have some sort of warm milk based product around half an hour before you wish to go to bed. It may be worth noting that you will not actually 'feel' anything as you do with benzodiazapines or the so called Z drugs and it is simply a matter of routine rather than anything else. Ask your doctor to explain to you how they work.
