I think I have herpes :'(

I'm so upset sad I'm about 99% sure I am currently experiencing my first outbreak of genital herpes. I just want to give a bit of background and then I have a couple of questions that I really really hope someone could give me a bit of advice ?

I was with my boyfriend 5 years and we split up in January. While we were together he used to sometimes get what we thought was friction burn on his willy and it used to look a bit like a blister but it would usually go away within a week. He used to get them every so often.

This week I have been feeling rough, my period came on Sunday and by Tuesday I felt like I had some prickly feeling on my inner thighs. I and a look and I saw a big round patch of blisters on my buttock close to my vagina and then what looks like a patchy rash around my thighs close to where my vagina is.. Thursday I woke up with a really sore lump on my groin so went to the doctor and they told me it was a inflamed lymph node.. I looked up all these symptoms and it all makes sense and points to henital herpes. The patch of blisters is now a bit scabby but I think it's going slowly. I wanted to go to the GUM clinic today but they couldn't get me in so I have to wait a week. sad sad so my questions are:

How am I meant to get diagnosed if they have gone by next Thursday?

I'm seeing someone new and meant to see him tomorrow I know he will want to have sex but I don't know how to avoid it. I want to have sex with him but i don't want to infect him! Will a condom help?

I feel really really down about this, I don't know what else to do and I'm too embarrassed to tell anyone. I do appreciate any advice.

Xx

Holly80550 I'm sorry you ate going through this. I have HSV 1 my self so my response is based from my own experience. I have never had a cold sore. But occasionally had very painful bumps which ooze liquid when pressed in my groin area or right on the public hair area of my vagina. I got tested for both HSV 1 and HSV 2 and turns out I only have type 1. My point is those bumps you have may not even be related to herpes. They may just be inflamed lymph nodes for sure. I would go to a walk in clinic and wait to be seen on the same day. You cannot get tested when the blisters have healed. You need to go in when they are ripe and ready to swab. As for the new guy... honey... I think it's only fair you gave the conversation with him now before you even kiss him again. I got herpes from someone who knew they had it but never bothered to say anything. Herpes CAN be spread even without visible symptoms. Personally if I were you I would not get physical with this new guy until you know for sure you are clear...

I should have mentioned when I was tested.. the bumps I had that ooze liquid were just swollen lymph nodes. I do not have any symptoms but I believe it's my responsibility to tell someone I have herpes so I do not spread it to them like it was to me.

Thank you for your kind response. I should mention that the swollen lymph node in my groin was separate I had already had the blister like things on me. I should have showed the doctor there and then the blisters round my vagina xx

Holly... can you go to a walk in clinic and have the blisters looked at TODAY? Do the blisters have fluid? I would say go get them looked at. Because without a raw culture from the actual blister they cannot test for type 2. Type one can be tested with a regular blood test. I know it's nerve wracking but I kid u not the anxiety of waiting worsens it.

I tried to go in today but they wouldn't see me it was too busy! So they made me an appointment on Thursday next week. They'll definitely be gone by then. They were actual clusters of watery blisters, that was a couple of days ago now they're like a scabbed blister. It's awful sad I think I have missed my opportunity

Go on thursday. Just have it checked out. I'm no expert but I think if you show the doc the scabs and describe it he will for sure know. For now... don't beat your self up for it.. you have not missed your chance... somehow they will figure it out. Keep your head high.

You do not have herpes, in reality this is not how your first outbreak happens and how you feel. You actually feel really really sore and you're in pain. So i don't think you have herpes. Just stop googling all these things, you're getting yourself more worked up. And as for your new guy, i'm sure you know what to do. Cause you said it yourself already.

It sounds rather like herpes. Pity you couldn't get to a clinic sooner to have it swab tested. What about a private clinic? A pcr swab can test older lesions, but not everywhere may offer that. The only other option is to do the IgG (not IgM) antibody test for herpes at 3+ months. If the clinic won't do it, you can order the test online. Fyi, condoms don't fully prevent transmission and an outbreak isn't necessary to transmit the virus.
