Hello all. I'm an 18 year old female.
I need some advice and support. I have recent been scared about possible herpes infection. I last had unprotected sex with a new partner on 9/24/14-10/18/14. On the 28th of october I went to the doctors with side pain and was diagnosed with a uti. They prescribed me medicine and I took it. The following morning I woke up with dry vaginal discomfort and itching. Thinking I had a yeast infection I took a diflucan pilland used some yeast infection cream on my vulva. Later that evening I noticed a rather largen, flat sore that had a yellow film of skIn over It. it looked almost at first like a chemical burn of some sort (only one sore). it burn For a brief moment while i urinate but the burning quickly subsides. Today I went back to the doctors and they said I have a 15% chance of having herpes. I want to know If anybody has ever experiemced this before

It's scary but yes. It sounds like you might have herpes if there was a sore.
I didn't beleieve It when I got it. I had two sores. Looked nothing like anything online. I went to one doctor who had no idea then I went to see another and she did the swab tests which came back hsv2 positive. Even then I found it hard to believe.
My new partner didn't have symptoms and didn't even know he had it. For about a week I thought it was just a yeast infection. I was uncomfortable and had a fair amount of discharge, but then as the two sores dried out, two more appeared.
If it turns out to be herpes, yes initially the news is devastating. I was horrified and felt disgusted with myself. I hadn't slept around and I was so incredibly in love with this boy. He had been checked as had I for STIs but no where routinely checks for herpes in their full check up (I was shocked at this news). It was hard at first. I was so upset I didn't know if I could continue being with him. We were both totally weirded out by the situation.
In time, we both got over it a little. It only took a couple of weeks to go from me crying in bed feeling like the world was over to me taking life by the horns and sticking my middle finger up to the virus. Stay strong. It does get better.
Good pieces of advice to follow if it is herpes :
If you get recurrent outbreaks. Do not suffer in silence. I had 3 outbreaks in my first month in September this year. I went back to the docs as asked to be put on a continuous dose of aciclovir. I now take 400mg twice a day and haven't had an outbreak since. Out of sight out of mind hey.
Piece of advice number two - this is just a cold score virus. You should tell people you have it before you sleep together. If telling someone you have herpes freaks you out, just say you are prone to coldsores / have the coldsore virus and it is possible the can contract it either up or downstairs via sex or oral.
Piece of advice number three - do not let herpes take control of your life. Herpes does not define you in any way. I know I almost let it when I found out. But now I am just the same as I was before, I don't even think about my herpes on most days now and I only contracted it a couple of months ago.
Piece of advice number 4 - if you are struggling, talk to someone about it. I used these forums but also told my family. I found out my bro gets coldsores. 50% of my family has herpes I found out. This made me feel normal again. Herpes is so not a big deal. I also told some of my friends I got a coldsore (didn't feel comfortable telling them I had genital herp at first). Now we have a laugh about it and it just felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. A
Good luck, stay strong and keep smiling ! It does get better ! I promise!

Hi I've had the exact same situation as you, terrified of herpes, do you know what bacterial cream you used? I want to try it, thanks!
