I think I have LS/BXO

Posted , 17 users are following.

I had some inflammation a week ago and I started washing my penis twice a day and applying anti fungal cream which worked pretty well but upon closer inspection I think I might also have LS now... what do you think? The white patch on my foreskin feels pretty hard and dry

Edit: After some research, I believe it is very likely I have a mild case of LS. I have read on the positive effects olive oil and coconut oil have had on some people with LS. I will stop washing my penis with soap and I will try to use these oils. If I don't see any improvements within a week, I will book an appointment with my family doctor. I will post updates on my situation on this post.

Your GP may not have detailed knowledge of conditions such as what you have going on - I am an LS sufferer and I do not recognise your symptoms as being LS - your GP may try something like a steroid application, or even refer you to a Dermatologist.

Generally, take a long-term approach - rather than considering and concluding after a matter of days, or even weeks.

LS is something that develops over an extended period of time, it can even take years from first noticing something was going on to get to a point where a severe skin condition such as LS has to be the cause of continual symptoms that simply will not completely heal.

Olive oil I would not recommend - if you use coconut oil all you need is a very light coating of it

I would also suggest you look at the role of diet and nutrition in auto-immune conditions and consider, if you have a poor diet, and alcohol intake, for example, what it is you can do to support your immune system.

And yes, please do update after you have seen the GP as to how they have helped you .....

Update: My GP told me she doesn't think this is lichen sclerosus. She gave me mometasone furoate 0.1% to apply twice daily and she referred me to an urologist. Unfortunately, this will take 3 to 6 months. I'm worried if this is lichen that it will spread to my urethra. I feel like it's likely that it's lichen because my glans has white spots. I will apply the cream as I was told.

may i see photo of your glans? Is the white spots have different texture or it is same? it could be just pigmentation, i have white spots on glans from 1 year and i dont know what is that also

The white spot is visible on the second and third picture. Right now it's really just color change, the skin feels the same. I am starting to think I might actually not have lichen sclerosus and the white on my foreskin could just be actual scar tissue (which is what my GP hypothesised).

As I indicated, many LS sufferers have symptoms for many years before getting a formal diagnosis. You first noticed symptoms very recently.

Even if it was LS it is very unlikely that symptoms would progress rapidly. What you may need to do, if symptoms worsen before seeing the Urologist would be to contact the GP and get a different steroid based ointment, probably a stronger one.

Depending which country you live in sometimes you can get to see a Dermatologist or Urologist quicker by going to a major sexual health facility, or if you are in the UK there are also GUM Clinics - again go to one at a regional specialist General Hospital where you are more likely to see, or be referred to a specialist.

If you do wait for the appointment: -

      • look at things you can do to improve your diet
      • look at alcohol intake, particularly if you drink wine, abstain from
      • consider nutritional supplements
      • hygiene is a major factor:
      • always wash after each time you urinate, or at least wipe with a tissue / toilet paper
      • each time moisture appears on the head and upper part of your penis it MUST be removed
      • so after washing or showering, fully dry with a towel ONLY you use
      • if you become sexually aroused or ejaculate, again wipe with tissues then fully wash and completely dry
      • aim for the only thing to contact the skin of your upper party of your penis to be water and the medication you have been prescribed

Thanks for all the tips Dugie! I will wait for the appointment unless my condition gets worse and I will try my best to keep my hygiene in check.

Today, I noticed I was able to remove some of the white patch on my foreskin very easily just by gently scraping with my nail. It felt like I was removing dead skin (I wasn't feeling anything being peeled off my foreskin). I only scraped a little bit because the rest looked like it wasn't ready to fall off, if that makes sense. Does this sound like LS?

      In terms of this:

"noticed I was able to remove some of the white patch on my foreskin "

whether you have an issue present depends on how the skin repairs itself and fully heals.

So the normal progression of LS what may happen anyway is the symptoms would seem to clear for an indeterminate period of time to re-emerge at a later date.

You have something going on and quite literally there can be a multitude of causes of that - some very simple, such as contact with an irritant on your skin, to the start of a whole range of potential skin conditions.

As I say, I have detailed what I think you can do to help your penile skin - what you can do is get your penile hygiene right everyday, only apply water to it and fully dry, then to help with potential auto-immune conditions, you can look at your diet and nutritional input is and work at ways to improve this, or potentially, even radically change these.

By doing all this you may even prevent further symptoms from developing !

Looks like BXO starting. It will continue to spread in a circular direction around the penis and become a wider scar making the skin tighter and tighter. Steroid creams are suggested in the beginning but I don't think they work well for BXO (just personal experience). Circumcision seems extreme and if it comes back, what foreskin will you have left to remove? I've seen alternative procedures, and read of steroid injections helping (but also potential for BXO to return). Also read that it is linked to penile cancer so definitely get it looked at before it gets worse. It can change quite a bit for the worst in a year and depending on how much you stretch the skin, it will likely spread faster. Therefore, less sex/masturbation will likely slow down the progression of micro skin tearing/scarring.

Hi Book thanks for the update from the photos it definitely looked like lichen sclerosus to me. I don't know what your doctor was thinking especially after the cream didn't work. now you are circumcised hopefully that will be the end of it for you. All the best

Will you please consider my condition? You'll find my post in the Penis disorders forum.

Definitely lichen sclerosus, but doctors seems to know nothing about this condition that could be cured, in early stages, with circumcision

    • Posted

How about a LS of a glans only. Do you think that could also be cured at early stage by circumcision?

hey I hope you're still active, what did you end up doing? mine looks very familiar to what you showed on the pictures. please reply

    I had similar scars.
