I think I’m going through withdrawal from my sertraline, what should I do?

I’ve only been taking sertraline for about 4 months, and at a low dose of 50mg (my doctor suggested I could go up to 75mg 2 months ago but I experienced such awful nausea I stuck with 50mg). I have recently noticed that taking sertraline is making me feel worse than I had been when I wasn’t on it, as I’ve been exhausted all the time but since starting the medicine I’ve been waking up at 5:30am without fail every single day. This week, I mentioned this to my doctor who said that I could start weaning myself off of it by taking one every other day for a week and then one every 3rd day for a week. Although this was only a few days ago, I’ve noticed that I’m feeling exceptionally under the weather this week and think it may be withdrawal? (I’m sweating quite a bit, I’m very shaky and nauseous and feel physically weak). I’m still at school and it is currently exam season, so I’m not sure if I should put myself back on the sertraline so I’m not going through exams and withdrawal all at once, but I’m not sure if what I’m experiencing actually is withdrawal. Any advice?

You shouldn't have given up at 50mgs. That's only a starting dose. Most people don't get any relief until at least 100mg. The worst times for me personally was when I was on 50mg and 75mg. I stuck it out and now on 100mg for 2 weeks I feel better than I have in years.

While this may be the case, I know in my heart of hearts that medication just isn’t right for me, especially as I’m very small and still quite young. Ironically, quitting is making me feel worse than actually taking the meds so that sucks too haha.

Well best wishes to you for whichever way you choose to beat this stuff.
